$5.4m worth of unclaimed monies in NCB banks will default to the Government soon.
Approximately $5.4 million in unclaimed bank balances will default to the Nation’s consolidated fund from the National Commercial Bank (NCB) come the end of this year.
That’s according to information published by the Ministry of Finance.
“Section 126 of the Banking Services Act requires the publication of the data in a newspaper at least two (2) times over a one (1) year period.” This will give persons the opportunity to claim these monies. If these monies remain unclaimed at the end of the year, they will become a part of the revenues of the Jamaican Government.
The list of unclaimed balances was published on the ministry’s website during the week ending August 12, 2023, covering up to March 2023. It comprises relatively small balances ranging from a few hundred to tens of thousands of dollars.
Many of the balances go back as far as two decades.
The publication gives account holders or next of kin for deceased account holders an opportunity to claim the funds from NCB before the bank handed them over to the Government.
