A police constable was pronounced dead at the hospital Sunday afternoon, July 9, 2023, after residents found him at home with a gunshot wound to his head and his service revolver beside him.
The police identified their colleague as Ernesto Tracey, a late constable assigned to the Hanover Traffic Department.
According to reports, at about 11:00 am, on Sunday, July 9, 2023, residents heard an explosion from Tracy’s apartment in Westgate Hills Community.
The residents went to the constables’ apartments to investigate. They found him lying in a pool of blood inside the apartment with a gunshot wound to his head and his service pistol beside him.
The residents summoned the police to the scene.
Upon arrival, the police rushed the constable to the hospital. He later died while undergoing treatment.
The police are awaiting the autopsy report to determine the cause of death.
Firearm seized during an alleged confrontation with police in St Elizabeth
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — On Saturday, July 8, 2023, detectives assigned to the Black River Police Department recovered one prohibited weapon during a confrontation with thugs in the Spring Park Community.
According to the police, at about 6:00 pm, they shot a gunman as he engaged the police in a gun battle.
When all was said and done, the police recovered one Taurus .357 Magnum fitted with a magazine containing three rounds of ammunition.
The gunman is in hospital under police guard.
The investigation continues.
Man flees from police, left loaded firearm behind on Beeston Street.
KINGSTON, Jamaica — On Saturday, July 8, 2023, law enforcers attached to the Kingston Western Police Department conducted an operation in Beeston Street Community, during which they recovered one prohibited weapon and seventeen rounds of ammunition.
According to a report from the Denham Town Police, at about 8:15 pm, law enforcement officers patrolled Beeston Street Community when they saw a group of men along the roadway, one of whom reportedly held what seemed to be a firearm.
Upon seeing the police approaching, the men fled–leaving the weapon fitted with a magazine behind.
The police did not make any arrests.
