ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica— The burnt body of a St Elizabeth farmer was found among the rubbles of his dwelling, which was gutted by fire early Saturday morning, July 8, 2023.
The police identified the deceased as 49-year-old Evert Medley.
According to residents of the Barton Community, Medley was in attendance at a candlelight vigil in the Community Friday night, July 7, 2023.
At about 1:30 am on Saturday, July 8, 2023, one of Medley’s relatives reported seeing fire coming from his one-bedroom dwelling and alerted the authorities at the Santa Cruz fire station.
Residents think somebody willfully set the house ablaze because Medley had scared off an intruder who had attempted to break into his next-door neighbor’s house earlier.
The residents believe the intruder may have returned and retaliated against Medley.
The police are investigating the matter.
One man is dead, and another in hospital following a dispute over a woman.
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Detectives from the Mandeville Police Department are investigating the fatal stabbing of a man, during an altercation with another man, following a reported disagreement over a woman in Mandeville on Saturday morning, July 8, 2023.
The police have so far withheld the identity of the deceased.
According to preliminary reports, two men locked horns during a confrontation over a female on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at about 7:00 am, behind a building near Plaza Road and Perth Road in Mandeville. Both men brought sharp offensive weapons into play during the mele, which they used to inflict wounds on each other.
Concerned citizens rushed the men to a nearby hospital, where one man died, and the authorities admitted the other for treatment.
A short statement from a police source stated the following:
“Two men were fighting over a woman. They stabbed each other. They were taken to the hospital by citizens. One died, and the other is in critical condition,” said the police source.
Up to June 30, 2023, 24 murders were recorded in Manchester compared to 23 in the corresponding period in 2022.
