The Gleaner exposed Blue Zone for importing substandard long-grain rice.

Trending in Jamaica News: The Gleaner exposed Blue Zone for importing substandard long-grain rice.

The Jamaican people should be thankful for the Jamaica Gleaner. Because even though it is slanted toward the Government, it is fearless when it comes to exposing Government corruption. Had it not been for great investigative journalism, the public might not have known that their Government was importing substandard products for the citizen to consume.

For example, on July 7, 2022, The National Compliance and Regulatory Authority (NCRA) detained 2,780 bags of long-grain rice because the product was deemed unsuitable or did not meet the minimum standard for Grade A rice. The rice was imported into the Island from Suriname by a company named Blue Zone, owned by the current Minister of Health and Wellness, Christopher Tufton. Blue Zone was incorporated in January 2021.

But even though the NCRA detained the substandard rice, by July 20, the CEO of the National Compliance and Regulatory Authority (NCRA), Dr. Lorice Edwards Brown, authorized the release of the detained products. And suddenly, the rice deemed substandard has now exceeded the maximum allowed broken kernels for Grade A rice. How did that happen?

This is cause for concern. And the people of Jamaica should be outraged. But, unfortunately, the Government does not care about the people. How can a man charged with the responsibility of health and wellness feed his people with substandard food? This man can no longer be the Minister of Health. He has no heart whatsoever.

The Andrew Holness Government is rife with corruption and nepotism. Every few weeks, a new scandal pops up. This Alibaba-styled PM must go. He has failed in every category. And he is yet to construct a manifesto. This man needs to learn about how to govern.
