The United Nations has allocated $4 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund to aid Jamaica, Grenada, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines post-Hurricane Beryl. Dennis Zulu, UN Resident Coordinator in Jamaica, affirmed support and readiness to deploy resources. Hurricane Beryl caused severe destruction in St. Elizabeth and Manchester, prompting humanitarian efforts and assistance. Tragically, a 20-year-old was swept away in a gully in Havanna, Arnett Gardens, St Andrew.

National Curfew Declared in Jamaica as Beryl Approaches

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has declared a state of emergency in Jamaica for seven days due to the approaching Hurricane Beryl. A curfew from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. will be in place, accompanied by mandatory evacuation orders for flood-prone areas. The government has allocated funds for emergency needs.
