Manchester Police Division has a new Operations Officer who is determined to curb escalations in crime and violence in the parish. On Friday, the authorities launched Operation Reset in Mandeville and Porus.
As a result, the police charged eight individuals with breaches of the Fraudulent Conversion Special Provisions Act. Also, they charged one person with breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
Additionally, the police recovered a 9mm Sig Sauer handgun with seven rounds in an abandoned location in the Scott Town community of Greenvale.
Deputy Superintendent Valdin Amos, Operations Officer for Manchester, stated that the operation began at approximately 10:00 AM and targeted several areas. Throughout the day, a strong contingent of police personnel conducted searches across multiple properties in Mandeville. They also searched the surrounding areas, detaining several individuals.
Amos emphasized that the ongoing operation aims to combat criminal activity in the parish. It focuses on searching for prohibited weapons and cracking down on lottery scamming.
The Operations Officer for the Manchester Police has committed to find scammers, wherever they are.
He noted that some lottery scammers have amassed enough wealth to rent properties in upscale neighborhoods for as long as five years to avoid detection. But, regardless of where they are hiding, the Manchester police will find them. No matter which gated community they are in, the Manchester police will be at their doorstep, he asserted.
On Thursday, Deputy Superintendent Odean Dennis, commander of the Manchester police, urged citizens to remain vigilant about unfamiliar individuals in their communities. He emphasized the increasing presence of lottery scammers in previously peaceful areas.
Dennis pointed out that one of the pressing issues in the parish is the prevalence of scammers. He stated that it seems scammers have identified Manchester as a haven and have infiltrated the area.
Dennis made these remarks during a meeting of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce at Golf View Hotel in Mandeville. He emphasized that scamming is an issue that the authorities need to address urgently.
