Westmoreland cops have arrested and charged a suspect in connection with a shooting and robbery at a business in Negril, Westmoreland, which left one man deceased and another injured.
Investigators have identified the suspect as Joshua Vaz, also known as “Josh,” 21, from Negril. Detectives charged him on Friday with murder, wounding with intent, aggravated robbery, and using a firearm to commit a felony.
The authorities have identified the victim as Nashon “Bubbanash” McGibbon, 35, a businessman from Tigress Lane, Negril, Westmoreland.
According to the Savanna-la-Mar police, the incident occurred at approximately 8:40 p.m. on Friday, May 22. McGibbon was at his business when Vaz and an accomplice allegedly attacked him.
The assailants reportedly approached McGibbon while he was with friends and opened fire, hitting him multiple times.
McGibbon attempted to run away, but his attackers chased him and continued shooting.
After the attack, the assailants stole a bag containing a laptop and an undisclosed sum of money.
During the shooting, another man visiting the island was shot in the left shoulder.
The police responded and transported the injured men to the hospital, where a doctor pronounced McGibbon deceased.
Law enforcement officers arrested Vaz during a police operation in Whitehall, Negril, on Tuesday, May 26. They formally charged him on Friday, June 5, after eyewitnesses positively identified him in an ID parade.
Investigators said Vaz’s court appearance date is pending.
Soldier arrested following seizure of gun in Glengoffe, St Catherine
Detectives from the St. Catherine South Police Division have arrested a member of the Jamaica Defense Force after seizing a Glock P80 handgun with a magazine containing five rounds at the soldier’s residence.

Investigators confiscated the weapon on Thursday, June 4, during an operation in Zion Hill, Glengoffe in St. Catherine.
The suspect’s name has been withheld pending further investigation. He is currently in police custody at the Portmore lock-up in St. Catherine.
Detectives are conducting the investigation in collaboration with the army’s Special Investigative Unit.
