US Travel Advisory: Jamaica Welcomes The Level 2 Status. The Government of Jamaica has welcomed the United States’ decision. They upgraded the travel advisory for Jamaica from Level 3 to Level 2. It encouraged Americans to exercise increased caution when they travel to Jamaica.
The Government viewed the change as an acknowledgment of Jamaica’s progress. The country has made advancements in enhancing public safety and security for both residents and visitors.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness spoke on Thursday, May 29, 2025. He said, “This revision reflects the hard work of our security forces. It also shows the efforts of government agencies. We have taken a deliberate and data-driven approach to reducing crime and improving the safety of our people.”
He added, “Jamaica remains one of the most vibrant and welcoming destinations in the world. We are pleased that our progress is being recognized.”
Meanwhile, Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett stated that the US travel advisory upgrade will have a positive impact on Jamaica’s tourism sector.
“This is a vote of confidence in Brand Jamaica. We have built our tourism industry on safety, excellence, and world-class service. The updated US travel advisory will strengthen traveler confidence. It will further position Jamaica as a top destination for leisure. It also promotes business and investment,” he said.
Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, stated that this update demonstrates effective diplomacy. It also shows ongoing engagement.
“We have maintained an open and constructive dialogue with our international partners. This includes the United States. This outcome demonstrates the value of that collaboration. Jamaica remains committed to upholding international standards of safety and transparency in all our engagements,” she said.
Besides, the Government of Jamaica has reiterated its commitment to security, good governance, and continuous improvement.
But, despite the Government’s enthusiasm about the US travel advisory, Jamaica needs to take further steps to enhance its security. The fact that the US has only excluded Portland and St. Mary from its advisory says a lot.
