Turf War Was the Reason for Rockfort Mass Shooting.

Turf war was the reason for Monday’s massacre in Rockfort in Eastern Kingston. The police said two of the five men killed in the massacre had affiliations with gangs and were referred to as area “dons.”

Residents in the community are on edge, and the security forces are deployed to prevent possible reprisals.

Speaking with the media on Tuesday afternoon, Prime Minister Andrew Holness said the deadly gun attack allegedly stemmed from a quarrel over turf, resulting in a violent turf war.

The PM said more and more Jamaicans realize that these men who claim to want to protect the communities or call themselves ‘elders’ or ‘dons’ are nothing but criminal, low-life people. And their solemn intent is to undermine the security of the community.

Further, the PM warned residents that if they allowed criminals to undermine their communities, they would ultimately claim their lives.

Mr. Holness said dons and elders are of no value to the community. And it is about time that all communities, all community members, realize that these persons serve no good purpose and often lead to a bloody turf war.

The Prime Minister disclosed that one of the alleged suspects in Monday night’s shooting was fatally shot during a police operation in the Rockfort area on Tuesday afternoon.

However, the Prime Minister declined to comment on the specific circumstances.

“I note the report of the Superintendent here who said that one of the persons who is suspected to be involved in the shooting that they met what I would consider to be their just end if they were involved. And the JCF and the JDF will maintain their posture of being very aggressive, but just in how they pursue these persons,” he said.

According to persons familiar with the matter, the police shot and killed the suspect in the Rushden Road area and recovered a firearm. The incident seems to be another episode in the ongoing turf war.

INDECOM Commissioner Hugh Faulkner said a team is investigating the shooting of 21-year-old Jordan Green of Rushden Road in Rockfort.

The police report indicated that on Tuesday, October 22, a police team armed with a search warrant went to the specified address where a confrontation occurred.

A police source said officers shot and killed Green during the confrontation. The law enforcement team reportedly recovered a 9mm pistol and ammunition at the scene, which is often typical in a turf war scenario.
