Temporary Halt of Elective Surgeries at Victoria Jubilee Hospital Due to Small Fire.
The Victoria Jubilee Hospital in Kingston has temporarily halted elective surgeries due to a “small fire” near an operating theatre early on Friday morning. Wentworth Charles, the chairman of the South East Regional Health Authority which manages the maternity hospital, confirmed that there were no casualties.

He reported that the fire broke out around 3 a.m. in a nurse’s room near the operating theatre on the building’s second floor.
The maintenance crew successfully contained the fire to the affected room.
Due to significant smoke, staff had to be relocated. The fire was extinguished, and the fire department conducted an inspection, Charles informed The Gleaner.
Elective surgeries were postponed for the day, with plans to resume normal operations by Saturday.
Charles noted that while emergency surgeries continued in a secondary operating theatre, some procedures were transferred to the Kingston Public Hospital, which shares the premises with Victoria Jubilee Hospital.
Fire authorities are investigating to find the cause of the blaze.
Victoria Jubilee Hospital stands as the largest maternal referral center in the English-speaking Caribbean.
