Largest Ammunition Seizure in Recent Years Sparks Police Investigation in St Elizabeth

ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica: On Friday, August 30, 2024, the police initiated an investigation after the discovery of 836 rounds of various ammunition in the Grosmond District, Santa Cruz. The Commanding Officer of St Elizabeth, Coleridge Minto, verified the find, remarking that it was the most significant in recent years.

At approximately 10:00 a.m., officers conducted a precise operation within the Grosmond community.

The operation led to a search of a specified location where they uncovered an assortment of ammunition.

Minto detailed the find as 702 2.2 cartridges, 85 9mm rounds, and 49 .38 cartridges, along with a 9mm magazine and a .38 revolver handle.

In 2024, to date, the total ammunition recovered in St Elizabeth stands at 1,263 rounds, added Minto.

The senior officer encouraged the local community to come forward with any knowledge of illicit activities.

WESTMORELAND, Jamaica: The Savanna-la-Mar police on Friday seized 27 rounds of ammunition during a lottery scamming paraphernalia. The seizure occurred at a premises during an operation in the Cooke Street area of Savanna-la-Mar.

The police stated that at about 5:00 a.m., a team of officers searched a premises in the community.

During the search, they found the ammunition at the back of the premises concealed in a container. Also, the authorities reportedly found 18 lead sheets related to lottery scamming.

But the law enforcement officers made no arrests concerning the seizure.

The investigation continues.

ST CATHERINE, Jamaica: Police charged a teen boy, age 16 after a complainant reported that he allegedly sexually assaulted her. The police said the incident occurred in June 2024.

The authorities withheld the teen’s identity but said he is a student of Old Harbour Mews in St Catherine.

The Portmore police said at about noon on the day in question, the complainant went to the teen’s house to make a payment.

While there, the teen allegedly dragged her into his room, where he proceeded to assault her.

The complainant filed a report with the police. The police launched an investigation and apprehended the accused.

Detectives formally charged the teen after the woman pointed him out on an ID parade.

His court appearance date is pending.
