St James Shopkeeper Charged with Assault using a Prohibited Weapon.

The St James Police have pressed charges against a shopkeeper for allegedly assaulting a woman with a gun on July 27, 2024. The incident took place at St John’s Square, Retirement, in St James.

The accused, identified as Zania Burke, also known as ‘Fourteen’, aged 30, faces charges of possessing a prohibited weapon, possessing a prohibited weapon with intent to injure, assault at common law, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and common assault.

According to the police report, at around 12:30 a.m. on July 27, 2024, the complainant was allegedly attacked by Burke, with whom she had an ongoing dispute, while standing on the roadway at St John’s Square. Burke reportedly pulled out a handgun, pointed it at the woman, and used it to strike her multiple times.

Following the incident, the woman fled and later reported the matter to the police. Burke subsequently surrendered with his attorney and was later arrested and charged by the police. His court date is pending.

WESTMORELAND, Jamaica— Three suspects have been formally charged following their arrest in connection with the seizure of a firearm and multiple rounds of ammunition on Meyler’s Avenue in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, on Wednesday, July 31.

The accused are facing charges of possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition.

The individuals in question have been identified as Collin Annakie, also known as ‘Blackboy,’ aged 33 of Dalling Street in Westmoreland and Nanny Path, Kingston 11; Jerome Bradford, aged 26, a livestock farmer and promoter from Meyler’s Avenue, Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland; and Jurmmy Wilson, aged 27, a farmer from Meyler’s Avenue, Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland.

According to reports from the Savanna-la-Mar police, at approximately 9:28 p.m. on July 31, 2024, a police team was patrolling the Meylers Avenue community.

The officers noticed a group of men congregating in a yard. Upon the approach of the police, the men began to behave suspiciously, prompting the officers to intervene.

Following a search of the premises, law enforcement discovered a Taurus 9mm pistol with a magazine containing nine 9mm rounds.

After further investigation and a question-and-answer session in the presence of their attorneys, the suspects were arrested and formally charged.

Their court date is pending.

A 27-year-old individual, Richard Simpson, residing at a Portmore Villa address in St. Catherine, has been charged by the police for allegedly gaining unauthorized access to a woman’s social media account and sharing inappropriate videos.

Simpson has been charged with using a computer for malicious communication in relation to the incident that occurred on Monday, Aug 5, 2024.

According to the Denham Town police, an altercation took place between Simpson and the woman between 12:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Subsequently, the woman discovered that her social media account had been hacked, and inappropriate content was posted.

Upon reporting the incident to the police, an investigation was launched, leading to the identification, arrest, and charging of Simpson.

His court appearance date is currently pending.
