In a tragic turn of events, two men were shot and killed by security forces in Spanish Town on Wednesday morning, August 7, 2024. It is reported that a third man involved in the incident managed to escape.
The authorities have identified one deceased as Orlando Davis, also known as ‘Blacks’ and ‘Son-Son’, of Jones Avenue in Spanish Town, St. Catherine. Efforts are underway to establish the identity of the second deceased individual.
According to law enforcement officials, the tragedy unfolded around 6:30 a.m. when a contingent of security forces officers launched a cordon and search operation in Backlands, Jones Avenue, Spanish Town. Upon entering a targeted premises, the officers were met with armed resistance, leading to a fatal exchange of gunfire.
During the harrowing encounter, the officers managed to recover a Springfield rifle containing two live rounds from the scene. Despite their best efforts, the victims succumbed to their injuries after being rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital.
In the wake of this distressing incident, the Independent Commission of Investigations has initiated a comprehensive probe to uncover the circumstances surrounding the fatal confrontation.
Massive Cocaine Seizure: 5 Arrested in $75M Havendale Operation.
A police team from the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) within the Counterterrorism and Organized Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC) conducted an anti-narcotics operation at a premises in Havendale, Upper St Andrew on Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

During the operation, the police arrested five suspects and seized a significant quantity of a substance believed to be cocaine.
The personnel from FNID, with support from other units within C-TOC, raided the premises, arrested the five men, and seized several knitted bags believed to contain cocaine.
In a news release on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, the police said the substance weighed 2,526.4 kilograms and had an estimated street value of US$75,792,000.
The police added that the contents of the knitted bags are being processed and that further updates will be provided.
Welder Charged with Stabbing: Altercation on Studio One Boulevard.
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Law enforcement officials brought charges against a welder after he turned himself in to the police for allegedly stabbing a man multiple times during an altercation on Studio One Boulevard, Kingston 5, on Saturday, July 20, 2024.

The authorities identified the accused as Warren Escoffery, aged 31, of Olympic Way in Kingston. Escoffery has been charged with wounding with intent.
The Cross Roads police reported that around 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024, Escoffery and another individual were involved in an altercation that turned physical.
During the altercation, Escoffery allegedly produced a knife and stabbed the complainant multiple times.
Passersby rushed the complainant to the hospital, where medical staff treated and released him.
The complainant filed a report with the police, who proceeded with an investigation.
Escoffery later surrendered to the police. He was subsequently charged after an interview conducted in the presence of his attorney.
His court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, August 8.
Tragic incident: Five-year-old girl slips and drowns in river in St Mary
The St Mary police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of five-year-old Nashera Hackett from Park Circle, Portmore in St Catherine. The incident occurred at a river in Castleton, St Mary, on Tuesday.
According to the Castleton police, Nashera and other family members were at the river for a swim around 3:45 p.m. It is reported that while walking near the riverbank, she accidentally slipped and fell into the water, where she encountered difficulties and subsequently drowned.
Authorities responded to the scene, conducted an initial investigation, and subsequently transported the young girl’s body to the morgue in anticipation of a postmortem examination.
