Intense Police Investigation Underway for Double Homicide in Westmoreland.

WESTMORELAND, Jamaica—The Major Investigation Division (MID) is investigating a tragic and unfortunate gun attack that occurred at the home of three brothers in the Bath district of Strathbogie, Westmoreland, on the night of Tuesday, June 11, 2024. The incident resulted in the death of two brothers and left another hospitalized.

The deceased have been identified as 34-year-old Leon Glaze and 31-year-old Cyril Glaze. During the attack, a third brother sustained gunshot injuries.

Reports indicate that around 10:30 p.m., an assailant entered the brothers’ home and began shooting.

After the gunfire ended, all three brothers were found with gunshot wounds.

The police arrived at the scene and transported the men to the hospital, where Leon and Cyril were declared dead, and the third brother was admitted for treatment in a serious condition.

This double homicide marks the second such incident within a month.

Previously, on Saturday, May 11, two brothers were fatally shot by assailants while playing dominoes at a shop in Burnt Savannah, Frome, in Westmoreland.

The victims of that shooting were identified as 44-year-old auto mechanic Damion Powell, known as ‘Donkey Knee,’ and 42-year-old businessman Collin Daley, known as ‘Gary,’ both residents of the community. Additionally, a 61-year-old man was wounded in the attack.

The men were ambushed and shot by two individuals who arrived on a motorcycle while they were playing dominoes.

The police have reported that as of June 9, there have been 50 murders in the Westmoreland Police Division, which is an increase of five from the 45 reported during the same timeframe the previous year.

The police arrested two men following a gun and ammo seizure in Franklyn Town.

Two individuals have been apprehended in connection with the confiscation of a firearm during a police operation in Franklyn Town, Kingston, on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.

Law enforcement officials reported that at approximately 11 a.m., a group of officers in the Northumberland Lane community engaged with a suspect whose behavior raised suspicion. Upon noticing the officers, the individual fled into a residence. Subsequently, the police pursued, apprehended, and conducted a search of both the suspect and the property.

During the search, authorities purportedly discovered the firearm along with ten 9mm rounds of ammunition. Additionally, another individual found in the residence during the search was detained by the police.

Both individuals were taken into custody, with their identities being withheld by the authorities pending further investigations.

In a separate incident in Hanover, the police disclosed the confiscation of a firearm and 14 assorted rounds of ammunition during an operation in the Forrest district in Ramble.

As per the Ramble police report, around 2:30 a.m., a police team carried out a targeted search of a residence in the community. In the process, the officers uncovered a 9mm Beretta pistol equipped with a magazine containing four 9mm rounds of ammunition. Additionally, two twelve-gauge cartridges were seized by the police.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the fatal shooting of a man by the police along St John’s Road in Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Tuesday morning, June 11, 2024.

The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Jason Taylor, who was reported as unemployed and a resident of St John’s Road.

According to the authorities, at approximately 7:30 a.m., a police team arrived at 81 St John’s Road in search of Taylor.

Upon their arrival, the police allegedly encountered Taylor holding a gun while exiting a blue drum.

Reportedly, Taylor aimed the weapon at the police, prompting them to take evasive action and subsequently fire, causing injury to Taylor.

Both Taylor and the firearm reportedly fell to the ground, and the police seized the weapon – a 9mm pistol equipped with a magazine containing seven cartridges.

Taylor was swiftly transported to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was tragically pronounced dead.
