Tragic Washington Boulevard Collision Leaves One Dead and Several Injured.

On Tuesday, June 4, 2024, a speeding Toyota Coaster bus was reportedly involved in a collision with a truck on Washington Boulevard near Cooreville Gardens in St Andrew, leading to one death and multiple injuries.

According to Hunts Bay police, the white Toyota Coaster bus, which was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed, lost control and struck the back of a truck around 8:30 a.m.

Several passengers, some critically injured, were quickly taken to the hospital following the crash. Observer Online reports that one individual succumbed to their injuries.

An officer at the scene, quoted by Observer Online, was shocked by the crash’s severity and called for increased caution among drivers on public roads.

According to the St. Elizabeth police, a Jamaican national who was deported from Antigua & Barbuda for overstaying has been arrested for an alleged rape that took place in December 2022.

The individual in question is identified as Odane Lee, a 35-year-old resident of Barbary Hall, St. Elizabeth.

Allegations suggest that the victim boarded the taxi operated by Lee, who then diverted to a sports complex in Barbary Hall and reportedly sexually assaulted her.

Following the victim’s report to the authorities, the police initiated an investigation and subsequently issued a warrant for Lee’s arrest.

On May 30, 2024, the accused was apprehended by the police upon his arrival at the Norman Manley International Airport.

The date for his court appearance is currently pending.

Three individuals, including a 23-year-old document clerk, a 21-year-old mechanic, and a 24-year-old call center agent, have been charged in connection with the discovery of a firearm on Port Henderson main road in Portmore, St Catherine, on Friday, May 31, 2024.

The accused individuals are Javany Havie from Oakland Avenue in Kingston, Shamoe Wakeland from Mahoe Drive in St Andrew, and Ramanu Henry, also from Mahoe Drive. They have been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition.

Law enforcement officers encountered a grey Toyota Mark X motor vehicle with the three individuals on board, parked along the Port Henderson road at approximately 2:30 p.m. The vehicle was searched, leading to the discovery of a black Taurus pistol with a magazine containing eleven 9mm cartridges under the front passenger seat. The individuals were subsequently taken into custody and charged with violations of the Firearms Act. Their court appearance date is pending.
