Three Suspected Gang Members Arrested for the Murder of an Old Harbour Bay Security Guard.

Cops Charged Mandela Highway Robber and Murder Suspect. On Wednesday, July 2, 2025, cops in St. Catherine, Jamaica, charged a suspect with the alleged robbery and fatal shooting that occurred along the St. Catherine section of the Mandela Highway on June 11. Authorities identified the suspect as Nicholas Bhalai, o/c, 'Coolie Bap,' 24, a laborer of Ferry, district, in St Catherine, Jamaica.

The St Catherine police have achieved a significant breakthrough in the 2023 shooting death of a security guard at his residence in Old Harbour Bay, St Catherine. They have apprehended and formally charged three alleged gangsters in connection with the crime.

The authorities identified the individuals as Jahmore Campbell, commonly known as ‘Platter Pus,’ 21 years old, a fisherman from Old Harbour; Gregory Henry, also known as ‘Baba Roots,’ 20 years old, a painter residing on Terminal Road in Old Harbour Bay; and Sheldon Brown, alias ‘Twelve,’ 27 years old, from Portland Cottage, Clarendon.

The police have charged the men with murder, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of ammunition, and involvement in serious offenses as part of a criminal organization.

The deceased individual was identified by the police as Lanz Hutchinson, aged 34, a former security officer from Terminal Road, Old Harbour Bay in St Catherine.

According to the authorities, on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at approximately 8:20 p.m., Hutchinson was at his residence when the accused individuals entered and opened fire, causing fatal injuries.

Law enforcement responded swiftly, transporting Hutchinson to the hospital, where he was tragically pronounced deceased.

A court appearance date for the accused individuals is currently pending.

Detectives assigned to the Portmore PD in St Catherine have reported the indictment of a party promoter for murder, firearm, and gang-related charges following a gun attack in Old Braeton. The attack resulted in the shooting of two men, one of whom tragically succumbed to his injuries.

The accused, Christopher Birch, whose alias is ‘Pattoo’ and is 26 years old, resides on Wallen Avenue in Old Braeton, St Catherine. The charges brought against him include murder, shooting with intent, involvement in serious offenses carried out by a criminal organization, use of a firearm to commit a crime, possession of a prohibited weapon, and unauthorized possession of ammunition.

The deceased, identified by the police as Orville Reid, also known as ‘Bruser,’ was 21 years old and resided on Wallen Avenue in Braeton, St Catherine.

According to the authorities, on May 27, Birch, along with two other men, ambushed Reid and another individual, opening fire and hitting Reid. Following the shooting, Reid attempted to seek refuge but tragically collapsed in a nearby yard. The other individual managed to escape unharmed.

Residents discovered Reid and promptly alerted the police. Upon arrival, the police transported Reid to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the authorities. It is reported that Reid made a dying declaration to the residents who found him.

Subsequently, the police apprehended Birch and charged him after conducting a question-and-answer session in the presence of his legal counsel.

Birch’s court date is pending.

Suspect Charged for Gun Attack in Lucea

Detectives from the Hanover Criminal Investigation Branch have filed charges against a suspect in connection to a gun attack on two men who were socializing at a bar in Lucea.

The accused, identified as 28-year-old Vernon Francis, also known as ‘Iraq,’ and a resident of Haughton Garden in Lucea, faces charges of shooting with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon, and malicious destruction of property.

Francis was charged on Friday, June 3, 2024, following positive identification by the complainants during an identification parade. He had been arrested during an operation on Thursday, June 2, 2024, and awaits a court appearance.

The incident allegedly occurred on Wednesday, May 15, around 10 p.m., when two acquaintances were at a bar in First Brissett, Lucea. A motorcycle carrying two individuals arrived and came to a stop. The passenger dismounted and brandished a handgun, firing shots in the direction of the men. After a brief chase, the assailant escaped on the waiting motorcycle. Fortunately, the targeted individuals were unharmed, though a nearby vehicle sustained damage from the gunfire.
