The Gleaner reports that Health and Wellness Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton is currently hospitalized at the University Hospital of the West Indies following an incident this morning, June 2, 2024, where he was reportedly struck by a car while riding his bicycle.
Information obtained from a senior government minister is that Tufton suffered a broken wrist.
The vehicle was reportedly being driven by a popular entertainer.
According to the senior government minister, Tufton’s condition is not considered serious, and he is recovering well.
Policeman injured during attempted robbery in Spanish Town; Attacker fatally shot.
A police officer was hospitalized, and an alleged assailant was fatally wounded during a robbery attempt in Sydenham, Spanish Town, St Catherine, on the morning of Sunday, June 2, 2024. Reports indicate that around 5:30 a.m., the officer, while en route to work, was ambushed by several men near the Villa Palm Hotel in Sydenham; one of these men was armed.
The armed individual shot at the officer, who responded defensively, leading to a shootout.
After the gunfire ceased, both the officer and the gunman were discovered with gunshot injuries.
An illegal firearm was recovered from the scene by the police.
Subsequently, both individuals were taken to the Spanish Town Hospital, where the alleged gunman died from his injuries, and the officer received medical care.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Spanish Town Criminal Investigation Branch and INDECOM.
Additionally, the Independent Commission of Investigations has initiated an inquiry into the shooting.
