KINGSTON, Jamaica—Early Tuesday morning, May 28, 2024, gunmen stormed the home of a Jamaican footballer on Water Street in Denham Town, West Kingston, opening fire and resulting in one fatality and one injury.
The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Rafiek Thomas, a footballer and ex-member of the renowned Boys Town Football Team.
The incident occurred around 4:40 a.m., with assailants entering Thomas’ residence and discharging firearms, leading to his immediate death and the wounding of another individual.
Local residents are said to have transported the wounded man to the hospital, where he was accepted for treatment, his injuries not being life-threatening, according to the police.
Reports also highlight that Thomas was instrumental in Boys Town’s Championship League victory last season, scoring the decisive goal in the final against Constant Spring. His career included tenures at Waterhouse, Harbour View, Tivoli Gardens, and Humble Lions.
As of now, the police have not determined the motive behind the attack.
A St Catherine man was shot after allegedly stabbing a police officer.
On Monday, May 27, 2024, an altercation between a police officer and his cousin landed both men in the hospital nursing knife and gunshot wounds.
According to information received, at about 1 p.m. on Monday, the cop and his cop were at home in Church Pen, St Catherine, when a dispute developed between the two men, during which the cousin, 39, allegedly used a knife and stabbed the policeman on his right hand.
In the heat of the moment, the police officer pulled his firearm and fired two shots, hitting his cousin in the upper body.
Both men received treatment at the Spanish Town Hospital.
The Old Harbour Criminal Investigation Branch and INDECOM are probing the incident.
A female is among four suspects sought by St Andrew Central Police.
ST ANDREW, Jamaica–Law enforcement officials responsible for the St Andrew Central Police Division have named four persons, including a female, as ‘WANTED’ for various crimes committed in the Division.
They are:
- Nicolas Williams, also known as ‘Pooh Bear’ of University Road, Kingston 6. He is wanted for shooting with intent.
- Calvin Simon,o/c ‘CJ,’ of Anderson Road, Kingston 5. He is wanted for murder.
- Shakario Miller, o/c ‘Berp,’ of Barbican Road, Kingston 6.– wanted for murder.
- Bianca Fullerton of Hope Boulevard, Kingston 6. She is wanted for murder.
The police asked the individuals listed to surrender themselves to the Half-Way Tree police immediately.
Meanwhile, the authorities reminded members of the public that harboring a fugitive is a criminal offense.
Further, the police ask anyone with information that can assist in their investigations to call the Half-Way Tree police at 876- 926-8184, Crime Stop at 311, the NIB Tip line at 811, the police 119 numbers, or the nearest police station.
Man foils attempted robbery in a confrontation in Portmore.
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica–Detectives assigned to the Portmore PD are probing a reported attempted robbery that resulted in the complainant disarming his attacker of a pistol with a magazine containing two 9mm rounds. The incident reportedly unfolded in Portmore, St Catherine, on Monday, May 27, 2024.
The Portmore police said the incident occurred at about 9:30 p.m. A man and a woman were parked on the roadway in Silverstone when a gunman approached them, brandished a firearm, and demanded their cell phones. The man allegedly refused the robber’s request, and a brawl resulted.
During the melee, the man reportedly overpowered and disarmed the gunman, who later scampered away empty-handed on foot in the community.
The complainant subsequently attended the police station, handed over the weapon, and filed a report.
