Former Police Officer Accused of $2 Million Kidnapping and Theft in St. Thomas.
A former police officer is facing multiple criminal charges for his suspected participation in an abduction and a $2 million robbery, as confirmed by his lawyer.
Investigators formally charged Lonnie Pearcy on Tuesday with kidnapping, using a firearm to commit a felony, aggravated robbery, assault at common law, and violation of the Corruption Prevention Act, according to his attorney Donnovan Collins in a recent interview.
Collins stated that Pearcy was positively identified in a line-up during an identification parade conducted on Monday, May 13, 2024.
However, Collins mentioned that his client’s employer had provided the police with surveillance camera footage that “clearly showed Pearcy at work in St. Mary” at a time that would have made it impossible for him to be in St. Thomas, committing the alleged offense.
It remains unclear whether charges have been brought against an active-duty police constable who is currently in custody for his suspected involvement in the robbery.
Home Circuit Judge Denied Former MP Jolyan Silvera Bail.
Jolyan Silvera, a former People’s National Party Member of Parliament for Western St Mary, has been denied bail after the police charged him with the murder of his wife. The decision was made in the Home Circuit Court Tuesday morning.
His attorney, Peter Champagnie, KC, stated that he intends to appeal the decision.
The deceased, Melissa Silvera, was found dead in the couple’s home in Stony Hill, St Andrew, on November 10, 2023. Although initial reports suggested that the 42-year-old woman died from natural causes in her sleep, a subsequent autopsy revealed that she had, in fact, died from gunshot wounds.
The discovery of three bullet fragments inside her body prompted a murder investigation by the police.
Silvera, a 52-year-old businessman, was taken into custody and charged with his wife’s murder on January 18, 2024.
