Tragedy struck the community of Burnt Savannah in Westmoreland on Saturday night, May 11, 2024, as two brothers lost their lives and a 61-year-old man was left injured in a violent attack.
The victims, Damion Powell, known as ‘Donkey Knee,’ aged 44 and an auto mechanic, and 42-year-old businessman Collin ‘Gary’ Daley, both residents of Burnt Savannah, were among a group of friends playing dominoes when the incident unfolded. Two assailants on a motorcycle arrived at the scene and indiscriminately opened fire, causing devastation, before fleeing the scene.
Upon arrival, the authorities discovered the brothers unresponsive, having sustained gunshot wounds to their upper bodies, while the older gentleman had been shot in the leg. Tragically, both brothers were pronounced deceased at the hospital, and the injured man was admitted for medical treatment.
The motive behind this senseless act of violence remains unclear as the police continue to investigate the incident. The fatal shooting has contributed to a total of 37 homicides in the parish of Westmoreland so far this year, highlighting the pressing need for effective measures to address the prevalence of such tragic events in the community.
Three charged with robbery of taxi operator in St Andrew.
The Constant Spring police in St Andrew have pressed charges against three individuals accused of robbing a taxi operator while posing as customers.

The accused have been identified as Anthony Davis, 23, a welder; Nimoy Robinson, 20, a construction worker; and Shanice Lynch, 18, from Denham Town, Kingston. They are facing charges of robbery with aggravation, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of ammunition, and using a restricted firearm to commit a felony.
Reports from the police indicate that on May 4, 2024, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the complainant received a pickup request from Lynch to collect her from an address along Cypress Drive in Red Hills, St Andrew. Upon arrival, Lynch, Robinson, and Davis entered the vehicle and allegedly used a gun to rob the complainant of his possessions.
Following the robbery, the suspects instructed the complainant to flee before making off in his car. The complainant promptly reported the incident to the police, who acted swiftly to apprehend the suspects and recover the stolen vehicle.
A subsequent search of the car led to the discovery of a .38 revolver containing six rounds. The suspects were formally charged following a question-and-answer session on Friday, May 10, 2024, in the presence of their legal counsel. The date for their court appearance is currently pending.

ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica—A bartender, identified as 19-year-old Sashacea Green from Slipe district in St Elizabeth, and a 17-year-old girl were arrested and charged by the police after allegedly stabbing a complainant in the face and back during an altercation in Cornwall district, St Elizabeth, on May 9, 2024.
Both accused have been charged with wounding with intent following an argument with the complainant at a business establishment. The verbal altercation escalated into a physical confrontation, during which the two accused reportedly used a knife and a pair of scissors to inflict stab wounds on the complainant.
The authorities treated the complainant at the hospital, after which residents in the community apprehended Green and the teenager, handing them over to the police. The accused are awaiting their court appearance date.
