Two rifles, a pistol, and five magazines were confiscated by a combined police-military task force during targeted operations in St James on Thursday.
In Mount Salem, Montego Bay, the Police, in cooperation with the Caribbean Search Centre and members of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), executed a highly focused operation on Katan Lane in the community.
The operation carried out between 12:30 p.m. and 2:40 p.m., is part of an ongoing commitment to combat illegal firearms and ammunition as well as to apprehend individuals wanted for various offenses.
The seized magazines include three that are compatible with the rifles and one designed for a pistol.
Law enforcement officers believe that the confiscation of rifles and magazines will significantly disrupt the capabilities of active gangs in the community.
Additionally, a wanted man, Andeno Burnett, was apprehended without incident and is now in police custody.
Furthermore, law enforcers in the parish seized another firearm during Thursday’s operation in Hill Top, Retirement in Granville.
Between 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., the premises were searched, and a bag containing a Ruger pistol with a magazine affixed was found buried under bushes at the back of the yard.
Two individuals have been detained pending further investigations into the particular seizure.

Bar owner Daine Morgan and bartender Kishene Arscott tragically lost their lives on Wednesday night following a double murder in Williamsfield, Siloah in St. Elizabeth.
The victims, 37-year-old Daine Morgan and 20-year-old bartender Kishene Arscott were pronounced dead at the hospital after being targeted by armed assailants at around 10:30 p.m.
It is reported that the perpetrators fled the scene in a Toyota Axio motor car after firing several shots at the victims. Deputy Superintendent Coleridge Minto, head of the St. Elizabeth Police, has stated that there is currently no known motive for the shooting.
In light of this shocking event, the police are supporting the community and committed to conducting a thorough investigation.

The victim, identified as 37-year-old Wade Phillips, also known as ‘Scatta’, was a vendor on Orange Bay Road in Logwood, Hanover. Reports indicate that Mr. Phillips was conversing with a 38-year-old farmer at his stall on Bloody Bay Beach in Green Island when they were viciously attacked and shot after 10 o’clock.
Regrettably, Mr. Phillips was found deceased at the scene, while the other victim was promptly taken to the hospital for medical attention. This distressing event has deeply affected the local community.
