Between Saturday, March 9, and Monday morning, March 11, 2024, a series of tragic events unfolded in Grange Hill, Westmoreland, as five individuals fell victim to gun violence. The Westmoreland Police point to a surge in gang activity as the underlying cause of these fatal incidents.

Although the JCF’s recent statistics indicate a decrease in the overall number of murders compared to the previous year, a distressing turn of events has occurred within the last 72 hours, with five lives lost in Grange Hill.

Deputy Superintendent Shaunjaye Mitchell, Zone 4 Commander for the Westmoreland Division, has emphasized the heightened police presence in the community and revealed that these murders are linked to an intensifying gang conflict.

DSP Mitchell urges the community to come forward with any relevant information to address this concerning escalation in violence.

Fatal Attack in Central Village, St Catherine

A tragic event unfolded in Central Village, St Catherine, on Monday, March 12, 2024, as a man lost his life in a violent attack and subsequent arson. The distressing incident took place on First Avenue, where the victim remains unidentified.

According to the authorities, the assault occurred at approximately 4 a.m. when the assailants inflicted gunshots and chop wounds before setting the victim’s residence ablaze.

Subsequently, law enforcement officers arrived at the scene following the distress call, discovering the victim’s lifeless body. Currently, detectives from the St Catherine South police are diligently conducting an investigation into this heinous crime.

St Elizabeth, Jamaica–A St. Elizabeth man is facing charges for the alleged sexual assault of a minor under 16. The charges were brought as part of the police’s intensified efforts to address sex crimes in the parish.

The accused has been charged with rape, buggery, and grievous sexual assault, with investigators stating that the alleged incident took place between February 2023 and July 2023.

In a separate case, the St. Elizabeth Police have also charged a 21-year-old farmer in Leeds district with rape, having sexual intercourse with a person under 16, and grievous sexual assault. The alleged incident occurred in July 2021 while the 15-year-old victim was visiting relatives.

The accused, who was wanted by the St. Elizabeth Police, was apprehended with the assistance of his mother.

Acting Superintendent Coleridge Minto, head of the St. Elizabeth Police, emphasized the thorough investigation of all reported offenses and the commitment to pursuing the suspects. He also highlighted the ongoing case reviews, including those related to offenses dating back several years.

Several individuals have been hospitalized with severe injuries following a head-on collision between two taxi cabs along the Pen Hill main road in Manchester on Monday afternoon, March 11, 2024.

The incident occurred shortly after 2 o’clock as the taxis were traveling in opposite directions. Ten people, including seven men and three women, sustained injuries and were swiftly transported to the hospital by passing motorists. Among the injured is a student of Knox College.

Upon receiving reports of the crash, police and firefighters were promptly dispatched to the scene to assist.
