A Westmoreland man who allegedly gunned down his 16-year-old girlfriend is on the run.

A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Westmoreland, Jamaica, as a 16-year-old waitress, Anita Dennis, lost her life in a devastating act of violence. Allegedly targeted by her ex-boyfriend, she was fatally shot after being accompanied home by a male friend from work in Little London on a fateful Saturday morning, March 2, 2024.

According to reports from the police, Dennis had just finished her shift and disembarked from transportation at the Little London square, where she met up with her friend, said to be a mechanic, who then walked her home. Subsequently, the pair sat on her verandah, engaged in conversation.

Tragically, the calm was shattered when the ex-boyfriend of Dennis arrived and opened fire on the unsuspecting pair. In a harrowing attempt to escape, both Dennis and her male companion suffered gunshot wounds to their upper bodies before the assailant fled the scene.

Despite the prompt arrival of law enforcement, Dennis succumbed to her injuries upon reaching the hospital, while the mechanic was admitted for gunshot wounds to his abdomen and back. The perpetrator remains at large as investigations into this deeply distressing incident continue.

Police charged a St Catherine businessman with breaches of the Firearms Act.

On March 2, 2024, detectives from the Old Harbour police in St Catherine filed charges against a businessman for violating the Firearms Act.

The individual in question is Kevin Bent, also known as ‘Kevin Square,’ aged 48, residing in East Bay, Old Harbour Bay, St Catherine.

Bent faces charges of possessing a prohibited weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition.

As per the police report, around 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, a police team in the Old Harbour town center directed the driver of a Honda CRV Sports Utility Vehicle to pull over along Darlington Drive.

Following compliance from the driver, the officers searched the vehicle. It is alleged that during the search, the officers discovered a bag on the front passenger seat containing a 9mm pistol equipped with a magazine holding nine 9mm cartridges.

The suspect was apprehended, subsequently placed in custody, and formally charged on Saturday, March 2, 2024, following a question-and-answer session with legal counsel. The date for his court appearance is pending.

Police slapped a Clarendon man with gun charges concerning a May 2022 shooting.

The police in Clarendon have arrested and charged Kenroy Bailey, also known as ‘Not Nice’, following his implication in a shooting in the parish in 2022.

Bailey faces charges of shooting with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of ammunition, and use of a firearm to commit a felony.

According to the May Pen police, at approximately 10:25 a.m. on May 25, 2022, Bailey drew a handgun from his waistband, aimed it at a man, and discharged a single shot.

The targeted individual escaped and promptly reported the incident to the authorities.

On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, Bailey was apprehended and subsequently charged.

The court date for the accused is pending.

A Portmore man is charged after police seized 28 rounds of ammunition.

A man from Portmore, St Catherine, was apprehended and formally accused on Thursday following the alleged discovery of 28 rounds of ammunition along Braeton Parkway.

Ramone McDonald, 28, of Portmore Park, faces charges of unauthorized possession of ammunition and dealing in prohibited weapons.

Authorities from the Portmore police department state that at approximately 10:15 p.m., officers observed McDonald engaging in behavior that prompted suspicion while on patrol in the vicinity. Subsequently, he was intercepted and subjected to a search.

Law enforcement officials reported the discovery of twenty-eight 5.56 cartridges in his possession, leading to his subsequent arrest and charges.

McDonald is set to appear before the St Catherine Parish Court on March 08.
