Tragic Incident in St Ann, Jamaica
Authorities in the parish have formally filed charges against a firefighter in connection with the tragic death of a senior citizen in Claremont, St Ann, on January 10, 2024.

The individual in question, identified as Dwayne Simpson, 40, has been charged by the police with the murder of Maxine Parkinson, 63, a beloved resident of Archer Hill in Claremont, St Ann.
Tragically, Parkinson’s body, showing signs of decomposition and head injuries, was discovered in the bushes on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, subsequent to her being reported missing.
Following an extensive investigation, the suspect was apprehended by law enforcement.
Reportedly, the accused led the police to the scene of the crime in Nine Palm in St Ann, where the remains of Parkinson were located.
Law enforcement discovered a flashlight, a pair of blue slippers believed to belong to the deceased, and a black phone charger at the scene.
The authorities processed a black Toyota Voxy owned by Simpson at the Claremont Police Station. A machete found inside the driver’s door was reportedly swabbed for a brown stain resembling blood. Additionally, blood samples were taken from the AC unit, trunk, and the vehicle’s running board, along with blue paint samples from the front passenger seat and the running board.
The investigation into this tragic incident remains ongoing.
Nigel ‘Mad Ras’ Bailey’s case was transferred to gun court.
Nigel ‘Mad Ras’ Bailey’s case was transferred to the Gun Court by a St Catherine Parish Court Judge following his appearance on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

Bailey, who had been featured on the ‘Wanted Wednesday’ list by the police multiple times, was apprehended by security forces on January 4, 2024. Subsequently, he was charged after being found in possession of a loaded firearm and a substantial amount of ammunition.
During the court session on Tuesday, attorney-at-law Maurice McCurdy expressed his intention to apply for bail on behalf of the accused. However, the presiding judge, Yvette Wentworth-Miller, declined to hear the application and opted to transfer the case to the Gun Court, stating that it falls under their jurisdiction.
Bailey was taken into custody on January 4, 2024, during a targeted operation in Top Mountain, Kitson Town, St Catherine. At the time of his arrest, he was found in possession of a Smith and Wesson pistol fitted with a magazine containing 15 9mm cartridges, along with an additional 39 rounds of ammunition.
The police subsequently charged Bailey with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition. He is remanded in custody and is slated to appear in the Gun Court in February for further proceedings.
