Police recovered three guns and ammunition on New Year’s Day.

Law enforcement officers confiscated three illegal firearms and multiple rounds of ammunition on New Year’s Day in four separate incidents, leading to the apprehension of a teenager in connection with one of the seizures.

The St. Andrew North police discovered a 9mm pistol, two magazines, and 26 9mm rounds of ammunition on Fagan Avenue, Gants Pen, Kingston 8. According to reports from the Constant Spring police, around 1:40 a.m., officers on patrol noticed a group of individuals standing along the roadway. Upon the approach of the police, the crowd dispersed. After conducting a search of the area, the firearm and ammunition were recovered.

Shortly after, in August Town, St Andrew, 12 9mm cartridges were seized from a teenager along Bedward Crescent. Reports from the Half-Way Tree police indicate that around 1:50 a.m., law enforcement officers were on patrol in the area when the teen was among a group of men coming from an event. They were approached and searched, and the ammunition was removed from his jacket pocket. He was taken into custody pending further investigations.

In the St. Andrew Central Police Division, a .38 Smith and Wesson revolver was retrieved by authorities during an intelligence-led operation along Godpyle Road in Kingston 5. Reports from the Cross Roads police state that around 6:05 a.m., law enforcement officers, acting on information, went to the gully in the area, where they found the weapon in a brown bag. The weapon was sent to the Forensic Laboratory for processing. No one was arrested in connection with the seizure.

In Clarendon, police officers assigned to the May Pen Operation Support Team seized a firearm and one cartridge during an intelligence-led operation in Oaks Pen, Rosewell, Sandy Bay. Reports indicate that around 12:20 p.m., law enforcement officers acted on information and carried out a search of an unused fowl coop, where a 12-gauge shotgun and one cartridge were recovered. No arrest has been made.
