Law enforcement authorities in St. Ann arrested and charged four underage schoolboys with rape after they allegedly sexually assaulted one of their underage female schoolmates at a high school in St. Ann on September 8, 2023.
The Police are tight-lipped about the incident, but the Officer in charge of the St. Ann Division, SSP Dwight Powell, has confirmed the incident involving minors.
According to unconfirmed media reports, the schoolgirl and one of the boys agreed to have sex at the school. And three of his friends showed up and joined in the fun repeatedly. The child needed hospital care after the incident.
The Police later picked up the four schoolboys at their homes. The Police charged them with rape and aiding and abetting rape following an identification parade.
The four boys have made two appearances in court since their arrest. A judge offered them bail earlier this week.
The authorities kept the matter under lock and key until a Ministry of Education officer reported the incident to the school board on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.
According to reporting, the school’s principal is in hot water for failing to follow established reporting procedures and did not report the matter to the school board.
Court ordered psychiatric evaluation for alleged attacker in B.B. Coke school beating case.
A judge in the St. Elizabeth Parish Court has ordered that the 16-year-old B.B. Coke High School student accused of beating his schoolmate unconscious receive a professional medical evaluation.
The examination will occur before the minor’s next court appearance on November 17.
The court made the order on Wednesday following an application by his attorney, Hopeton Marshall.
During the proceedings, the prosecution disclosed that the complainant is still recovering at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI).
The Police charged the accused schoolboy last weekend with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm after he reportedly punched and kicked the complainant, a grade nine student, into unconsciousness while both were at their St. Elizabeth-based school.
The court offered him bail on Monday, October 2, 2023.

On Wednesday morning, October 4, 2023, detectives in St. Elizabeth arrested a suspect and recovered cash he stole during a robbery in Santa Cruz.
The authorities said that at about 2:15 a.m., a woman awoke to strange sounds from a section of her house.
Shortly after, a gunman entered her bedroom after kicking the door open.
The gunman reportedly ordered the complainant to open a bar, where he stole an undetermined sum of cash and cigarettes before escaping.
The complainant reported the matter to the Police. As a result, members of the Santa Cruz Mobile Patrol conducted a coordinated operation at a premises in Santa Cruz, where they apprehended the suspect and recovered the stolen cash and cigarettes.
The suspect remains in custody pending formal charges.
