Earlier today, October 5, 2023, law enforcement officers responded to a shooting incident at the St. Richard’s Early Childhood Education Centre on Red Hills Road in St. Andrew.
Head of the St. Andrew North Police Superintendent Sherika Service confirmed the shooting and said it appears the Pthe principal was the target of the attack. But she escaped unhurt.
The shooting occurred on Sunrise Crescent, which runs off Red Hills Road, at about 9:30 a.m.
The school had asked parents and guardians to pick up their children in light of the shooting.
The St. Richard’s Primary School has also suspended classes. Both schools are located on the same compound.
Man arrested following a robbery in St. Elizabeth.
On Wednesday morning, October 4, 2023, detectives in St. Elizabeth arrested a suspect and recovered cash he stole during a robbery in Santa Cruz.
The authorities said that at about 2:15 a.m., a woman awoke to strange sounds from a section of her house.
Shortly after, a gunman entered her bedroom after kicking the door open.
The gunman reportedly ordered the complainant to open a bar, where he stole an undetermined sum of cash and cigarettes before escaping.
The complainant reported the matter to the Police. As a result, members of the Santa Cruz Mobile Patrol conducted a coordinated operation at a premises in Santa Cruz, where they apprehended the suspect and recovered the stolen cash and cigarettes.
The suspect remains in custody pending formal charges.
