Police charged taxi operator after he allegedly attempted to suffocate his spouse.

Gum Shoes, attached to the Portland Police Department, arrested and charged a taxi operator with attempted murder stemming from a dispute with his common-law spouse.

He is 37-year-old Royan Stewart of Rural Hill in Portland.

The police charged Stewart with an attempt to suffocate with intent to commit murder, assault occasioning bodily harm, malicious destruction of property, and simple theft.

According to the police report, on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at about 2:30 am, Stewart allegedly attacked his common-law spouse and shoved her against a concrete wall, causing injuries. Afterward, he smashed her mobile phone and laptop computer.

As a result, the woman removed herself from the corrosive situation and relocated to Johnson Mountain in St Thomas. 

But, a determined Stewart appeared at the woman’s home in St Thomas and attacked her again. But this time, he used a pillow and attempted to suffocate her. Stewart also reportedly stole the woman’s debit cards and personal ID cards.

The complainant reported the incident to the police; the police arrested and charged Stewart.

The police are yet to decide on a court date for Stewart.
