On Wednesday evening, June 21, 2023, the Bog Walk Gorge in St Catherine seemed like the Wild West as gunshots echoed around the community. People were seen scampering frantically away from the area, and motorists tried to make about turns on the narrow roadway.
When all was said and done, one policeman and one of the alleged gunmen were shot in a reported shootout.
The alleged gunmen and the cops were reportedly involved in a shootout in the area after law enforcement officers intercepted a vehicle and reported a stolen vehicle.
The law enforcers rushed their colleague and the injured gunman to the hospital, where the gunman succumbed to his injuries. The police officer is said to be doing well.
The cops charged ‘Bashy’ with the St Thomas Beryllium attack in April.
The police announced that their investigators had made a breakthrough concerning the attack on a Berrylium security team in St Thomas on April 29, 2023.
According to the police, on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, they charged Jevon ‘Bashy’ Bashford, age 28, with fourteen offenses stemming from the Berrylium attack in St Thomas.
The police charged Bashford with the following:
- Wounding with intent with the use of a firearm
- Robbery with aggravation
- Shooting with intent
- Use of a prohibited weapon to commit a felony (two counts)
- Possession of a prohibited weapon
- Unauthorized possession of ammunition
- Stockpiling firearms
- Stockpiling ammunition
- Possession of firearms and ammunition with intent to cause damage
- Being a participant in a criminal organization
- Malicious destruction of property
- Using conveyance to traffic firearms
- Facilitating the commission of an applicable offense by a criminal organization
- Conspiracy to commit Robbery with aggravation
On April 29, 2023, at about 10:53 am, the Beryllium guards entered a gas station in Albion, St Thomas, to carry out maintenance duties when a group of heavily armed men attacked them and opened fire, hitting one security guard and a bystander.
The men then stole a bag containing more than $100,000 before escaping in a motor car.
Detectives from the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigations Branch (C-TOC) conducted an intense investigation that led them to a house on Jacques Road in Mountain View, Kingston, on Friday, June 09, 2023, where they seized two high-powered rifles and over 70 assorted rounds of ammunition.
The police took Bashford into custody at that scene.
He subsequently gave the police a caution statement in the presence of his attorney.
His court appearance date is pending.
