On Wednesday night, May 31, 2023, a female law student was shot and killed at a car wash in Tucker, St James.

The police identified the deceased as Andrea Hanson of Retirement in St James.

According to media reports, at about 7:30 pm, Hanson was seated at the car wash she operates with her boyfriend along Tucker Main Road.

Minutes later, a motor vehicle drove up, and two men armed with handguns alighted and ran over to Hanson.

The men opened fire, hitting Hanson, who ran inside her vehicle.

The thugs chased her and shot her multiple times inside the vehicle.

The gunmen then escaped in the waiting motor car.

Citizens summoned the police to the scene. Upon their arrival, the police rushed Hanson to the hospital, where she died.

The police are investigating.

A mobile phone accessories vendor was found dead at People’s Arcade.

A male cellular phone accessories vendor who s a ply his trade at the Montego Bay Transport Centre in St James was found dead inside a shop at the People’s Arcade, where he reportedly resides.

The police identified the victim as Llewellyn Hosen, o/c ‘Indian’ or ‘Brown Man,’ of a Race Course address in Trelawny.

According to reports, at about 3 am, Thursday, June 1, 2023, residents heard loud explosions from a section of the People’s Arcade and alerted the Barnett Street police.

Upon arrival, the law enforcement officers found Hosen’s partially nude body lying on his bed with a gunshot wound to his head. In addition, police said the room was ransacked.

The police rushed Horsen to the hospital, where he died.

Detectives from the Barnett Street police station are investigating the murder.

Lone thug gunned down 94-y-o retired public health inspector in St Ann.

The St Ann police are investigating the murder of 94-year-old Kenneth Downer, a retired public health inspector, who was gunned down by a lone thug at his home Thursday afternoon, June 1, 2023.

According to media reports, at about 4:30 pm, June 1, 2023, Downer was at home in Huntley Crescent, Brown’s Town, St Ann, when a gunman entered and fired shots, repeatedly hitting the retired civil servant.

Neighbors rushed Downer to the hospital, where he died. 

The police have not established a motive for the murder.

Police seized an illegal firearm in Linstead and arrested one man.

The Linstead police have arrested and charged a man following the seizure of an illegal gun in the Charlemont community.

According to police reports, at about 11:00 am on May 31, 2023, law enforcement officers conducted a snap raid on the premises occupied by the suspect. 

And during a detailed search of such premises, the police allegedly found one nine-milli-meter semi-automatic pistol. 

As a result, the law enforcers arrested the suspect on suspicion of possessing a prohibited weapon.

The police withheld the suspect’s identity pending a question-and-answer session in the presence of legal representation.
