Police charged St Catherine man accused of murder/robbery during home invasion.

KINGSTON, Jamaica— The police reported that they had charged a man with murder and robbery with aggravation concerning the shooting death of Ajainai Banfield, o/c ‘Ajie,’ age 23, and robbery of a woman in a home invasion along Gallow Way Road in Kingston on Friday, May 19, 2023.

The police identified the accused as Demari Henry, o/c ‘Pound,’ age 33, of Ivy Crescent, Central Village, St Catherine.

According to the Hunts Bay Criminal Investigations Branch, on Friday, May 19, 2023, at about 2:40 am, Banfield was home on Gallow Way Road with a woman when gunmen kicked open the front door and opened gunfire, hitting him in the upper body.

The gunmen then robbed the woman of her cell phone before escaping on foot.

Citizens alerted the police. Upon arrival, they found Banfield suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper body. The police rushed Banfield to the hospital, where he died. 

Detectives from the Hunts Bay CIB launched an investigation into the homicide. And on May 19, 2023, they arrested Henry. On Tuesday, May 30, 2023, the police charged Henry with murder and robbery with aggravation after the complainant pointed him out on an identification parade.

His court appearance date is pending.

The police charged Westmoreland couple following ammo and firearm seizure.

WESTMORELAND, Jamaica— Savanna-la- Mar detectives have arrested and charged a couple following the seizure of a firearm and several rounds of ammo on Black Heath Road, Westmoreland, on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. 

The police charged Jahnoy Barron, age 30, a shop operator of Black Heath Road, Westmoreland, and Simone Walker, age 30, of three Miles River, Westmoreland, with possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition, dealing in a prohibited weapon, and possession of parts of a gun. 

According to the police, at about 5:45 am, May 30, 2023, law enforcement officers went to Barron’s home and searched a room occupied by the couple. The police found a 9mm pistol, a magazine containing 16 rounds, and an extended magazine containing five rounds inside a blackboard box.

The police arrested and charged the couple after an interview in the presence of their attorney.

Their court appearance date is pending.

Thugs shot and killed ‘Pressa’ and injured another at a Roehampton shop in St James.

The police in St James has launched a probe into a shooting in Roehampton district in the parish that has left one man dead and another injured. 

The police identified the deceased by his alias ‘Pressa.’ 

The shooting occurred sometime after 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. 

According to police reports, both men were part of a group assembled at a shop in Roehampton when armed men traveling on board a motor car opened gunfire, hitting them.

Citizens summoned the police, and upon their arrival, the police assisted the victims to the hospital, ‘Pressa’ died, and the other man was treated and admitted in serious condition.

The police are yet to theorize a motive for the shooting.
