Two days after two visitors to Jamaica, a mother, and her daughter, got robbed at gunpoint in Portmore, St Catherine, the police arrested the alleged robbers in the “getaway” vehicle in downtown Kingston.
The police credited the arrest to the collaborative efforts of the St Catherine South and the Kingston Central police. The criminals robbed the foreigners in Braeton Phase 1 housing complex on Monday, May 22, 2023, and the police arrested the suspects on Orange Street in Downtown Kingston on Wednesday, May 24, 2023.
According to the police report, at about 8 pm, on Monday, May 22, 2023, a woman and her daughter were awaiting family members when they were pounced upon by two robbers traveling in a Honda Fit motor car.
The robbers held the women at gunpoint and reportedly took a bag containing cash estimated at GBP 100 and other personal items from one of the women.
The women reported the matter to the police. As a result, the police launched an investigation.
The police said on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, they acted on information gathered and intercepted a motor car that fit the description of the “getaway vehicle” with the alleged accused aboard along Orange Street in Downtown Kingston.
The police took both men into custody but withheld their identities pending further investigation.
The police charged ‘Ganja-man’ with breaches of the firearms act.
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — The Westmoreland police have arrested Leon Pulchan, o/c ‘Ganja-Man,’ age 21, a farmer of Cornwall district, Hertford in Westmoreland, with breaches of the Firearms Act, following an incident in Cornwall District in the parish on March 1, 2023.
The police charged Pulchan with shooting with intent, possessing a prohibited weapon, and using a firearm to commit a felony after opening gunfire on a man he had a dispute.
According to the police, at about 10:30 am, March 1, 2023, the complainant was at home when he and Pulchan had an altercation. Pulchan left and returned shortly with a firearm, opened gunfire in the complainant’s direction, and fled. Fortunately, the complainant was not hurt.
However, the complainant made a report to the police. As a result, the police launched an investigation. And Pulchan turned himself into the Savanna-la-Mar police on Friday, May 26, 2023. The police charged him after a question-and-answer session.
His court date is pending.
The police shot and killed a 29-y-o chef in a shootout.
The police High Command reported that The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) had launched an investigation into the shooting death of a 29-year-old chef by the police in Tucker, St James, on Friday morning, May 26, 2023.
The police identified the deceased man as 29-year-old Oatis Edwards.
According to the police, at about 5:45 am, Friday, May 26, 2023, a joint police/military team was on an operation in sections of Tucker when the police saw Edwards acting suspiciously.
The police accosted Edwards, and he allegedly opened fire at the law enforcement officers, who took evasive actions and returned the fire. As a result, he was fatally shot, and the police seized an illegal firearm.
INDICOM is investigating the fatal shooting.
