St Thomas businessman and student among three charged in theft of more than $500K.

The Morant Bay police have reported that they have charged three St Thomas residents, including a businessman and a student, with theft of more than $500,000 arising from two separate incidents in Morant Bay between March 30 and 31, 2023.

The police charged Richardo Miller, age 20, of Land Top District, Port Morant, Robert Napier age 22, a businessman of Prospect District, and Khemar Wilson, age 20, of Church Street, Morant Bay, with shop breaking and larceny. 

While patrolling the area at about 3:20 am, a police team discovered that somebody had broken into the establishment because grills were removed and the front door pried open.

The owner later confirmed that some items were missing.

Shortly after the first discovery, a woman told the police that someone had broken into her business place. 

Upon arrival, the law enforcement officers observed that the thief had removed locks to gain entry, cut open seven-game boxes, and stole $500,000 in cash. 

One eyewitness told the police that she saw Napier conversing with two other men she had seen walking toward the building earlier. She would later point out Napier to the police.

The police later apprehended Napier and reported finding housebreaking implements in his possession. And he gave a caution statement implicating his co-accused

The police arrested Miller on April 1, and Wilson turned himself in the following day.

The police charged all three men. They will appear in the St Thomas Parish Court on April 14. 

Man killed in Trelawny motor vehicle accident.

TRELAWNY, Jamaica: A motor vehicle accident along the Coral Springs Main Road in Trelawny claimed the life of a St Cathrine man early Sunday morning, April 9, 2023. 

The police identified the deceased as 49-year-old Howard Phillips of a Spanish Town, St Catherine address.

Reports are that at about 2:00 am, Phillips was driving a white Toyota Fielder on the Coral Springs main road in Trelawny when he lost control of the vehicle, which ran off the road and overturned.

Phillips, the vehicle’s lone occupant who sustained multiple injuries, died on the spot.

The Duncans police are investigating.

Phillips became the parish’s third motor vehicle accident victim since the start of the year.

The Trelawny Police Division recorded 31 road fatalities last year.

The police arrested a Hanover teen after gun found under a zinc.

On Friday, April 7, 2023, the Hanover police arrested an 18-year-old teen concerning the seizure of a firearm during a random operation in Rock Spring District, Hanover.

According to the police, at about 10:30 pm, a team of law enforcement officers was on patrol in the Rock Spring community when they conducted a search at a small shop. Upon seeing the police, the teen who was inside the shop ran and placed an object under a sheet of zinc.

The police apprehended the teen and searched the area. During the search, the police recovered a .38 revolver and one .38 cartridge. 

Meanwhile, on Saturday, April 8, 2023, the police arrested a man concerning the seizure of a pistol at his home in Bath, Savanna-la- mar, Westmoreland.

According to the Savanna-la-mar police, at about 2 pm, April 8, 2023, a law enforcement team conducted a targeted operation at the man’s home, and they seized the weapon.

The police took the man into custody pending further investigation.
