Man Accused of Shooting at Cops at Checkpoint in Custody.

The motorcyclist, who allegedly opened fire at the police at a traffic checkpoint along Slipe Pen Road in Kingston on Friday, April 7, 2023, is in police custody.

According to reports, the man is a higgler and a resident of one of the West Kingston communities. The police arrested him after his motorcycle. The police removed a firearm from his person.

The police said on Friday, April 7, at about 4:15 pm, the man was driving a motorcycle along Slipe Pen Road when the police signaled him to stop. He disobeyed the police, brandished a firearm, and opened fire at the law enforcement officers. The police returned the fire. As a result, the motorcycle crashed, and the man fled the scene on foot.

The police pursued and caught the man. The police removed one Glock pistol with a magazine containing thirteen 9mm cartridges from his person and seized the motorcycle.

The police detained a senior Beryllium employee in connection with the Portmore robbery.

According to DCP Fitz Bailey, the police have taken a treasurer officer employed by Berylium into custody concerning the J$23 million Scotiabank ATM robbery in Portmore, St Cathrine.

The police arrested the robbery suspect during a targeted operation in St Ann on April 5, 2023.

The cops said they found J$500,000 in the suspect’s possession. 

DCP Bailey said seven suspects are in custody concerning the multi-million dollar robbery.

One of which the police have charged with murder concerning another case.

Earlier in the week, 24-year-old Shemar Yee of Fairview Park, Spanish Town, St Catherine, was hit with 12 charges concerning the attack on security guards delivering cash to the Scotiabank ATM. The charges include participating in a criminal organization, several breaches of the firearms act, and robbery with aggravation.
