On Friday, March 31, 2023, St Andrew Central detectives arrested a pillion rider along Half Way Tree Road for possessing an imitation firearm. However, the police have declined to reveal the name of the accused.
According to the police, on Friday, March 31, 2023, at about 8:00 pm, a police team was traveling along Half Way when they saw a motorcyclist with a pillion on board, a breach of the Road Traffic Act. Plus, many drive-by shootings are carried out by pillions aboard motorcycles.
The police team signaled the motorist to stop, and he complied.
On seeing the police, the pillion placed an object in his waistband.
The police accosted and searched him, and during the search, they removed an imitation firearm from the waistband of the pillion.
So far, the police have not stated whether they have pressed charges or released the accused’s name.
Businessman injured in St Andrew gun attack.
A man, the court freed of a murder charge recently, was shot and injured by unknown assailants along the Golden Spring main road in St Andrew on Sunday morning, April 2, 2023.
The victim, a well-known businessman from St Andrew, was admitted to a hospital in stable condition.
According to reports, at about 10:30 am, Sunday, April 2, 2023, the businessman was driving his motor vehicle along the Golding Spring Main Road when a car heading in the opposite direction stopped with its 4-way flashers on.
The police said the businessman stopped, perhaps to offer assistance, when two men armed with handguns alighted and opened fire in the businessman’s direction, hitting him in the right hand and right foot.
Theme subsequently returned to the motorcar and sped into the area. The injured man was escorted to the hospital, where he was admitted.
Holness Administration Committed to Tackling Gangs – Clarke
Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke, representing the Government of Jamaica, said the Jamaican Government is resolute in providing the necessary resources to aid the security forces in the fight against gangs in jamaica.
He emphasized that the country is encouraged by recent successes in prosecuting the Klansman criminal gangs.
He says the Police Commissioner has advised there are several similar cases to come.

Police Commissioner, Major General Antony Anderson, says robust networks are being created across law enforcement to combat increasingly organized and sophisticated gangs.
General Anderson spoke on Thursday at the USA-JA Advanced Counter Gang Training program opening ceremony by the US Embassy in Kingston.
The National Police College is partnering with institutions in the United States to build the capacity to identify, investigate, prosecute, and dismantle transnational criminal organizations.
General Anderson says where the infiltration of gangs and the prosecution of gangsters are concerned; the police have an appetite for improvement.
