Public sector workers, including teachers, are yet to receive March salary.

The opposition Peoples National Party, PNP, calls on Finance Minister Nigel Clarke and the government of Jamaica to tell the people when our teachers and other public servants will receive their March salaries.

According to the party’s spokesman on finance, Mr. Julian Robinson, thousands of teachers and civil servants were perturbed over nonpayment of salaries as of the close of business Friday, March 24, 2023.

Mr. Robinson stated that many of our teachers would incur penalties and late fees due to their standing order payments coming out of their accounts because they expect to receive their salaries on a particular day.

Earlier this month, the JTA’s delegates voted in favor of the government’s deal under the compensation restructuring exercise. However, controversy developed at the signing ceremony, the President of the JTA LaSonja Harrison, refused to sign the agreement.

But the President-Elect of the Jamaica Teacher’s Association, Leighton Johnson, signed the agreement and said his leader gave him the authority to do so.
