During the 2015/2016 General Elections campaign, then Opposition Leader Andrew Holness gave Jamaica’s electorate several undertakings while on the campaign trail, including plans for his administration’s first 100 days in office.

And when Mr. Holness assumed the role of Prime Minister, Observer Online, one of Jamaica’s premium media outlets, declared that it would be tracking the actions of the Holness-led Jamaica Labour Party government (JLP). But, neither the Prime Minister nor Observer Online has kept their promises to the Jamaican people.
The PM has had seven years at the helm, and thus far, he has not fulfilled one of his promises to the Jamaican people.
Some of Holness’ clearest pronouncements before the election included, among others, the following:
- Start the legislative process to fix the date for general elections in Jamaica.
- Begin the legislative process to institute impeachment proceedings in Parliament.
- Start the legislative process to institute term limits on the Office of the Prime Minister.
- Get rid of income tax for everyone who earns a basic salary of $1.5 million or less yearly, beginning on April 1 – the start of the 2016-2017 fiscal year.
- Set in motion a grand referendum on the Caribbean Court of Justice CJ as the final appellate court and the removal of the buggery law.
