WESTMORELAND, Jamaica – Unknown assailants open fire on a group, killing one man and injuring four others in Georges Plain Westmoreland on Friday night, March 3, 2023.
The police identified the dead man as Rojay Mowatt, o/c ‘Bwoy Bwoy,’ late of Burnt Savannah in the parish.

According to the police report, the five men were in a group at a shop when two armed men alighted from a blue Toyota Corolla Axio motorcar, fired at the crowd, and fled.

Shortly after the shooting, Mowatt was seen suffering from gunshot wounds to his abdomen, and the other men had gunshot wounds to their legs, foot, hip, and thigh.

They were taken to the hospital by relatives, where Mowatt was pronounced dead, and the four injured men were admitted in stable condition.

The police are yet to establish a motive for the shooting.

A cop seeking medical help died when he collided with a utility pole in St Catherine.

A policeman who reportedly left home driving his motor car for medical treatment died when he collided with a utility pole in Bog Walk, St Catherine, on Friday night, March 3, 2023.

The police identified the dead constable as 31-year-old Ricardo Williams. He was attached to the Tivoli Gardens police post in the Kingston Western police division.

According to the police reports, at about 11:45 p.m., Friday night, march 3, 2023, constable Williams was driving a Toyota Corolla motor car along Church Road in Bog Walk, St Cathrine, when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle near the old Nestle factory. As a result, the car collided with a utility pole. 

Williams was rushed to the Linstead Hospital in the parish, where he was pronounced dead.

According to SSP Michael Phipps, the officer in charge of the Kingston Western Police Division, constable Williams was at home when he developed a medical issue that needed urgent attention. He left home alone to reach the hospital or a doctor. Unfortunately, he did not make it.

Constable Williams served in the Jamaica Constabulary Force for 11 years.
