Woman constable charged with attempting to pervert justice.

The police have charged one of their colleagues again for breaking the law they have sworn to uphold. According to reports, the police have charged female constable Lavern Hendricks in connection with the ongoing investigation into an alleged rape and robbery committed in Black River, St Elizabeth, for which another member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force has been charged.

The St Elizabeth police have charged Lavern Hendricks, 44, of Ginger Hill district, with attempting to pervert the course of justice and misconduct in a public office.

Reports are that on January 30, 2023, a police team signaled a woman to stop at a checkpoint relative to a road traffic breach. Constable Alwayne Hill allegedly requested money from the woman in exchange for not prosecuting her. She had only J$ 700, but the constable demanded J$50,000. He then took her to an ATM in Black River to withdraw the money. Constable Hill subsequently took the woman behind a supermarket and allegedly raped her.

The victim went to the black River police station and reported the incident to woman constable Hendricks who was on duty. Hendricks allegedly told the woman to lie in exchange for money. Hendricks also lied in her report about what the victim reported.

Truck driver shot dead near Church in Westmoreland.

An unknown assailant shot and killed a Westmoreland truck driver while parking his Isuzu motor truck on a church compound in Gordon district in the parish on Tuesday afternoon, February 14, 2023.

According to reports, at about 5:30 pm, on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, 39-year-old Ordel Salmon of Gordon district in Westmoreland was parking his Isuzu Truck on White House Church of God of Prophecy grounds when a blue Toyota Axio motor car drove up. And a man alighted and fired several shots at Salmon. Salmon, who lives next door to the Church, ran into his yard. But the shooter chased and shot him several times. Finally, the gunman escaped in the Toyota Axio. Salmon died on the spot.

A judge offered the St Elizabeth policewoman charged in a rape and robbery case $300,000 bail.

ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica – The woman constable whom the police alleged attempted to pervert the course of justice and misconduct in a public office concerning rape and robbery allegedly committed by another member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) appeared before a judge in the St Elizabeth Parish Court on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. And the judge granted her bail.

Judge Brodrick Smith granted woman constable Lavern Hendricks bail in the sum of $300,000 with conditions when she appeared before him on Wednesday, February 15, 2023.

Hendricks is required to report to the New Market police station every Sunday between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm. The judge also issued a fingerprint order for Hendricks. 

Hendricks retained attorney Jodi Taylor. Her next court day is April 19, 2023, in Black River.
