Rudy Giuliani’s health journey has taken a surprising turn, as the former New York City mayor recently received last rites during his critical condition. But there’s hope for his recovery!
Hospital officials admitted Rudy Giuliani, 81 on Sunday, May 3, and placed him in the ICU. Later, his spokesperson, Ted Goodman, announced that the authorities had moved Giuliani out of intensive care. However, he would would spend some time recovering before they discharge him.
On May 6, Goodman enthusiastically shared an update on X: “The mayor and his family are truly grateful for all the love and prayers coming their way.” He proudly noted that Giuliani remains the determined fighter he has always been. In addition, Giuliani is steadily overcoming this challenge!
During his hospitalization, Giuliani received a visit from a priest on Monday, May 4. His primary care physician, Dr. Maria Ryan, informed the media that the priest administered last rites. At the time, Giuliani was in serious condition.
“He’s a fighter, the way he was yesterday in such a critical condition, he did have a priest come anoint him,” Ryan said.
She described his improvement as remarkable. “With all the prayers from everyone, it’s like a miracle,” Ryan continued. “This guy’s got nine lives; today he’s doing much better.”
Goodman also acknowledged the power of prayer in his update. “The power of prayer is working. The mayor feels it, and we feel it,” he wrote. “Please continue to pray for America’s Mayor, Rudy Giuliani.”
Goodman previously said Giuliani was recovering from pneumonia. He shared that suffers from lasting respiratory issues connected to the Sept. 11 attacks. This makes the former mayor’s health complicated.
Rudolph Giuliani served as the mayor of New York City from 1994 to 2001. He was in office during the September 11 attacks. On that day, Mayor Giuliani ran toward the towers to assist those in need. This act ultimately led to a diagnosis of restrictive airway disease. Goodman explained that this condition aggravated Giuliani’s respiratory illness.
