Jamaica Police Apologized for Posting an Innocent Man as Wanted. The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has issued an apology. They mistakenly published the photo of an innocent man. They incorrectly identified him as wanted for murder.
The man in question, Alando Gray, was featured in the JCF’s “Wanted Wednesday” series in May 2025. The JCF assured the public that it has taken steps to prevent such errors from happening in the future.
This case of mistaken identity has caused significant distress for Alando Gray. The 26-year-old construction worker told the media that he surrendered to the Mandeville Police. His photo began circulating on a JCF poster. It listed him as wanted for a murder that occurred in Portmore, St. Catherine, Jamaica.
While in custody, the Mandeville Police transferred Gray to the police in Portmore, where he faced extensive questioning.
During this time, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) shared a follow-up photo and stated that Gray was in custody.
After hiring a lawyer, Gray underwent further interrogation. But the police later released him after realizing they had the wrong man.
They admitted they made a mistake. But Gray pointed out that the JCF only removed his photo from their social media post.
But after receiving mounting backlash from the public, the Jamaica police issued an apology on Friday, June 13, 2025.
In its apology, the JCF explained that the mistake occurred because there was another individual with the same name. This person is actually wanted for murder. They expressed regret for the inconvenience and distress caused to Gray.
The Jamaica police force stated that they have conducted a thorough review of their internal processes. They have examined the quality management systems. This ensures the accuracy and integrity of all information released to the public.
John Clarke is the Chairman of Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ). Meanwhile, he welcomed the JCF’s announcement about implementing systems. These systems aim to prevent another case of mistaken identity.
