Reports indicated that at approximately 11:30 p.m., Student Constable Nelson had arrived at a location to escort a family member to an event.

While seated in his Toyota Fielder vehicle, he was targeted by a lone gunman who opened fire, striking him in the upper body.

In St. Catherine, Jamaica, police engaged and fatally shot two suspects during a confrontation on Friday night in Rivoli, Spanish Town.

The incident reportedly occurred around 9 PM when law enforcement officers approached the men as part of an operational patrol in the area.

During the engagement, authorities seized two firearms: a Smith & Wesson pistol with a magazine containing two 9mm rounds and a shotgun.

The deceased suspects were identified as Marco Miller, also known as ‘Izzy,’ and Alex Phillipot, alias ‘Toby,’ both residents of Buck Town in Rivoli, Spanish Town.

According to reports, a police team was patrolling the community when the behavior of a group of men raised their suspicions. Officers called out to the suspects, who responded by firing shots and fleeing towards the river in the Ferdyne Close area.

The police pursued the individuals, during which a man armed with a rifle allegedly fired upon them, triggering a shootout.

When the exchange of gunfire concluded, officers discovered one suspect suffering from gunshot wounds while clutching a rifle.

Furthermore, while conducting a sweep of the area, officers entered a residence through an open door. Upon their entry, a suspect reportedly aimed a firearm at the police, prompting them to return fire in self-defense.

Medical personnel at the Spanish Town Hospital later pronounced both suspects dead on arrival.

The Inspectorate of Professional Standards Oversight Bureau alongside the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has initiated investigations into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Residents of Buck Town in Rivoli, Spanish Town, St Catherine, erected roadblocks on Saturday in response to the fatal police shooting of two men in their community on Friday night.

The incident, which took place around 9 p.m., has escalated tensions in the area.

Distraught residents utilized debris to obstruct the main thoroughfare.

In retaliation, security forces dismantled the barricades, only for residents to reconstruct them in a show of defiance.

The individuals fatally shot were identified as Marco Miller, known as ‘Izzy,’ and Alex Phillipot, also referred to as ‘Toby,’ both of whom were from Buck Town in Rivoli.

Millisa Hyatt, a cousin of Phillipot, voiced her outrage at the loss of her family member.

“He was at the gambling shop, and he left to come over for some money. Then we heard someone screaming, followed by gunshots, and later learned that the police killed him in his house,” Hyatt stated to The Gleaner.

She alleged that security forces entered his residence, interrogated him, and subsequently shot him.

“I am deeply troubled by this. Toby was a diligent worker for the Jamaica Public Service (JPS). He was not involved in criminal activities. We demand justice for this. We would have preferred if they had taken him to the station and physically assaulted him, rather than killing him in his own bed,” she asserted.

Conversely, law enforcement officials reported that Phillipot and Miller were killed during an alleged confrontation.

Authorities claim to have recovered a Smith & Wesson pistol, loaded with two 9mm rounds, and a shotgun at the scene.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has initiated an investigation into the matter.
