In three months, fans of dancehall entertainer Vybz Kartel will witness his performance for the first time in over a decade. Still, many have expressed concerns over the high-ticket prices.
Kartel served thirteen years in prison after being convicted by Jamaica’s Supreme Court in 2014, alongside entertainers Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell, Kahira Jones, and Andre St John, for the 2011 murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams. They were later sentenced to life imprisonment.
After an unsuccessful appeal in Jamaica’s Court of Appeal, they took their case to the Privy Council in London.
On March 14, 2024, the Privy Council found the 2014 trial to be flawed due to allegations of juror misconduct, leading to the overturning of the conviction and a remand to the Jamaican Appeal Court.
The day before Emancipation Day, August 1, 2024, the Appeal Court exonerated recording artist Adidja Vybz Kartel Palmer, freeing him after 13 years of incarceration.
On August 30, 2024, the promoter revealed the ticket prices for Kartel’s eagerly awaited ‘Freedom Street’ concert.
Scheduled for December 31 at Kingston’s National Stadium, the concert marks Kartel’s first live show in 14 years, creating a significant moment for both the artist and his supporters.
