A fatal collision occurred on Sunday morning, August 4, 2024, as a taxi traveling along the North Coast Highway in Trelawny crashed into a trailer. Four individuals tragically lost their lives, while three others sustained serious injuries.
The authorities reported that the devastating accident took place between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. The vehicle, a Toyota Probox motor car carrying six passengers, was en route from Braco main road to Duncans when the driver reportedly lost control, leading to a collision with a truck.
Regrettably, all seven occupants, including the driver, suffered fatal injuries, with three individuals succumbing on the scene and four others later passing away at Falmouth Hospital.
The deceased have been identified by the police as:
- 19-year-old hotel worker Anthony Walters of Alexander, St Ann
- 32-year-old Sabrina Downie of Woodstown, Discovery Bay, St Ann
- 39-year-old Jody Levy of Browns Town, St Ann; and
- 59-year-old taxi operator Marlon Lyons of Braco, Trelawny.
The authorities theorized that speeding played a role in the crash.
The unfortunate incident is under investigation.

The young victim, identified as Deshawn Bailey of Fort George in St Mary, was a passenger in a vehicle traveling towards Highgate when the driver lost control, causing a collision with an embankment and the vehicle to overturn.
Both the child and the driver suffered multiple injuries in the accident. Despite being rushed to the hospital by bystanders, Deshawn was pronounced dead upon arrival, while the driver received treatment and was later released. An investigation into the incident is underway by the Annotto Bay police. This heartbreaking event has deeply affected the community, and the authorities are diligently working to understand and discuss the circumstances surrounding this tragedy.
Fatal Shooting of Three Men in Spanish Town Involving Security Forces.
Three individuals, one of whom was listed as one of the most wanted by the St Catherine North police, were fatally shot in an alleged confrontation with law enforcement in Tryall Heights, Spanish Town, on Sunday morning, August 4, 2024.
According to law enforcement reports, at approximately 5:30 a.m., a joint police and military team carried out an operation at a location within the Tryall Heights community. The team reportedly came under gunfire during the operation.

In response, the officers took evasive measures and returned fire. After the shooting ceased, the police found three suspects with gunshot wounds.
The injured individuals were swiftly transported to the Spanish Town Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead by medical staff.
Additionally, two firearms were recovered at the scene, as outlined by the police.
Fatal Shooting at Taxi Stand in Cross Roads, St Andrew
A tragic incident occurred at a taxi stand on Caledonia Crescent in Cross Roads, St Andrew, on Saturday night. The victim, 32-year-old Jervin Swaby from Braeton in Portmore, St Catherine, was fatally shot while seated in the back of a parked taxi.
The assailant, a lone gunman, approached the vehicle and unleashed a barrage of gunfire before fleeing the scene.
Despite efforts by a passerby to aid Swaby and transport him to the hospital, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The authorities have launched an investigation into the matter.
