Hurricane Beryl is churning toward Jamaica as a dangerous Category 5 storm after leaving at least one person dead and inflicting ruin across the Caribbean islands on Monday. The storm has already ripped through scores of homes in Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, where many are still without power or water. Beryl continues to smash records as it kicks off an exceptionally early hurricane season — now becoming the earliest Category 5 hurricane on record and only the second Atlantic storm of such strength to be recorded in July. Forecasts show harsh winds and rain will be felt in Hispaniola today with as much as 3 feet of storm surge. Government officials have also activated national disaster response protocols in Jamaica, where water levels may rise 5 feet above normal tide levels.

The authorities in Spanish Town have converted their investigation of a shooting on McVickers Lane on June 27, 2024, to a murder inquiry following the victim’s passing due to his injuries.
The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Chevaughn Mattis, who resided on McVickers Lane.
Reports indicate that at approximately 8:45 p.m. on June 27, 2024, Mattis was assaulted and shot by unidentified individuals along McVickers in Spanish Town, St Catherine.
Law enforcement responded promptly and provided assistance to Mattis at the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.
Regrettably, Mattis succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, June 30.
The Criminal Investigation Branch in Spanish Town is now handling the investigation into this tragic incident.
Tragic Incident: Farmer Fatally Shot at Trelawny Residence
Sheldon Henlon, a 40-year-old farmer from New Forest, Trelawny, was fatally shot in his home around 11:30 on Sunday, June 30, 2024.
As reported by The Gleaner, law enforcement officers responded to the area following reports of gunfire in the community. Upon their arrival, they discovered Henlon, who resided alone, lying on his back, covered in a red substance and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Henlon was then taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased by the authorities.
At present, the police have not determined a motive for this heinous attack, and the investigation remains ongoing.
