Serious Incident: American Airlines Flight Veers Off Runway at NMIA.

American Airlines flight 850 from Miami to Kingston veered off the runway at Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) on Thursday night, June 6, 2024, amid heavy rain.

The airplane landed at about 9:35 p.m., one hour 46 minutes later than its scheduled arrival time. The late arrival was reportedly due to delays at Miami International Airport.

According to media reports, a passenger on the flight recounted their experience on social media platform X describing the flight as rough and scary. Nevertheless, they were thankful for the safe landing.

Police Officers Hospitalized Due to Suspected Food Poisoning.On Thursday, June 6, 2024, several members of the JCF’s Specialised Operations Division were hospitalized with suspected food poisoning.

A police source reported that the officers, who were attending a tactical training course in Kingston, fell ill after eating food that was prepared off-site.

Eleven officers suffered from vomiting and diarrhea.

The officers were quickly transported to a medical facility, where one constable was hospitalized for serious symptoms. His condition, however, is not considered life-threatening.

The remaining officers were treated and have since been released.

Police from Kingston Central indicted a taxi operator with several breaches of the Road Traffic Act after he led law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase downtown Kingston on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.

According to media reports, the chase started on Ocean Boulevard, causing a traffic pile-up for several minutes as a police team tried to apprehend the driver. When the chase ended, the driver exited the vehicle and attempted to elude the police.

A senior officer at the Kingston Central Police Department told the media that high-speed chases have recently become a regular occurrence in downtown Kingston.

The senior officer confirmed that the vehicle’s driver had been arrested and charged. However, he never disclosed any details about the charges or the suspect.

Additionally, the officer indicated that there has been an increase in the incidence of people questioning and resisting the police as they execute their duties. The senior officer called on the public to desist from such practice. He highlighted that the best approach for motorists is to comply and then later.
