The Minister of Justice, Delroy Chuck, has asked the Integrity Commission (IC) to reveal details about six politicians who are suspected of making money illegally.
This issue has been unresolved for almost a year, causing uncertainty among the lawmakers. On Thursday, May 2, 2024, Chuck called for clarity and mentioned that people on the street often ask if he is one of the six individuals under investigation, stressing the importance of quickly resolving the matter.
The IC’s Director of Information and Complaints, Craig Beresford, explained that illegal enrichment is based on a difference between a person’s spending and income. Chuck also inquired about the submission date of the Integrity Commission’s latest report.
The committee chairman, Edmund Bartlett, mentioned that the report cannot be submitted until June and that the commission should not be rushed. The Corruption Prevention Act states that illegal enrichment occurs when a public servant has assets disproportionate to their income.
In the 2022/23 report, the Integrity Commission revealed that seven legislators and 32 public officials were under investigation for providing false information.
The reports from the previous years also showed similar investigations into illicit enrichment and providing false information but none of the individuals have been arrested or charged.
Murder Suspect Fatally Shot in Annotto Bay, St. Mary.
A suspect who was being sought by the police for his alleged involvement in a double fatal shooting in St. Mary last year was discovered deceased in Annotto Bay over the weekend.
The authorities have identified the deceased as Lamar Hunter, also known as ‘Tubby,’ age 22, a late resident of Juno Pen in Annotto Bay, St. Mary.
According to the Annotto Bay police, residents of Juno Pen reported hearing gunfire in the early hours of Saturday morning, April 27, 2024 and promptly notified the police.
Upon responding to the call, the police discovered Mr. Hunter’s body with multiple bullet wounds. Officials at the Annotto Bay Hospital later confirmed Hunter’s passing.
