Policeman Narrowly Dodges Harm in Ambush by Gunmen in St. Ann.

The brave policeman in St. Ann narrowly evaded danger as he came under attack by a group of daring gunmen.

A Detective Constable from the St. Ann Criminal Investigations Branch narrowly escaped a potentially fatal encounter in the early hours of Friday, March 29, 2024. The incident occurred at approximately 12:40 a.m. at the intersection of the Llandovery main road and Mines district in St. Ann.

As reported by Radio Jamaica News, the officer was inside his vehicle, awaiting the arrival of his brother, when another car approached. Two armed individuals emerged from the vehicle and shone a flashlight at the detective. They then directed the plainclothes officer to exit his car and instructed him to walk across the road and lie on the grass.

Despite being armed, the officer cooperated with the instructions. However, while crossing the road, he drew his licensed firearm, prompting an exchange of gunshots with the assailants. The two individuals fled the scene, abandoning a grey Toyota Altis motor car.

The detective promptly called for support from his colleagues based in St. Ann. Upon conducting a search, law enforcement discovered a Taurus 9mm pistol in the vicinity. Fortunately, the detective did not sustain any injuries.

Fatal Shooting by Police at St. Mary’s Party.

On the morning of March 29, 2024, a fatal shooting occurred in the Enfield district, St. Mary. According to reports from Radio Jamaica News, the incident took place around 1:00 a.m. during a police raid on a party in the Riverside community. The authorities had received prior intelligence suggesting that individuals at the gathering were in possession of firearms.

Upon their arrival, the police confronted a suspicious individual, eventually leading to the use of lethal force as the suspect allegedly brandished a firearm and aimed it at the officers. The individual was subsequently transported to the hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. As of now, the deceased has not been identified.

The Independent Commission of Police (INDECOM) is currently conducting an investigation into this tragic event.

Norcotics Authorities Confiscate Cannabis Valued at $10 Million in Portland!

The narcotics police report the interception of another significant shipment of marijuana intended for the international market. Approximately 1,000 pounds of ganja, valued at J$10 million, was confiscated in Norwich, Port Antonio, Portland on the morning of Friday, March 29, 2024.

Law enforcement officers from the Narcotics Division conducted an operation in Port Antonio around 2:00 a.m.

The search of the coastal plains of Norwich Beach revealed 18 knitted bags containing compressed ganja concealed in shrubs along the shoreline. Despite the seizure, no arrests were made in connection with the incident.

Amid a recent surge in brazen robberies carried out by armed men, the St. Elizabeth Police have escalated their efforts to apprehend the culprits.

Acting Superintendent Coleridge Minto, who leads the St. Elizabeth Police, emphasized to Radio Jamaica News that the High Command is actively confronting the current wave of criminal activity in the parish.

In a special operation conducted on Thursday, March 28, 2024, three suspects were apprehended and a firearm was confiscated in the Middlesex community.

“We implore the residents of the parish to come forward with any information they may possess. There have been multiple incidents, particularly robberies, and we are cognizant of individuals wielding rifles and targeting our businesses. Therefore, our operational activities are laser-focused on identifying these individuals, curbing their movements, and ensuring they face the full extent of the law,” stated Acting Superintendent Minto.

The operations persisted through Friday, spanning various communities in the parish, as an extensive manhunt was initiated for the gunmen.

The Hunts Bay police confiscated one firearm and several rounds of ammunition during an operation on Myrie Avenue, St Andrew, on Friday, March 29, 2024.

The police said at about 12:45 p.m., a team searched premises in the area during an operation.

During the search, the police found one Glock pistol with a magazine containing nine rounds of ammunition and a 12-gauge cartridge on the roof of a house.

The police did not make any arrests following the seizure.
