Report of Errol Basco’s Situation Confirmed by St Mary Police Chief

Acting Superintendent Kevin Francis, commanding officer of the St Mary Police, has verified the ongoing investigation into a report concerning Errol Bascoe, principal of Tacky High School.

The police were informed of the report last week, prompting Mr. Bascoe to resign as the People’s National Party’s prospective parliamentary candidate for St Mary Western.

Acting Superintendent Francis opted not to disclose specific details of the report.

Mr. Bascoe tendered his resignation to PNP President Mark Golding, expressing the allegations against him as unjust and spiteful.

While he did not elaborate on the nature of the allegations, Mr. Bascoe stated that he chose to step down to recognize the potential impact on the party’s reputation and his commitment to contest the accusations.

The PNP has acknowledged and approved Mr. Bascoe’s resignation.

Errol Bascoe has tendered his resignation as the caretaker for West St. Mary amid allegations of sexual misconduct. In a statement, Bascoe vehemently denied the accusations, asserting his decision to step down was based on the community’s best interests. The resignation comes amidst growing scrutiny and calls for a thorough investigation into the claims made against Bascoe.

Principal Errol Bascoe of Tacky High School has tendered his resignation as the PNP’s standard-bearer for West St. Mary amid allegations of sexual misconduct involving a 23-year-old man.

Mr. Bascoe submitted his resignation to PNP president Mark Golding on Friday, March 8, 2024, categorically denying the allegations and describing them as cruel and malicious.

“I am innocent of this false allegation, and I am confident that the truth will prevail,” stated Mr. Bascoe emphatically.

The allegations originated from a police report filed by a 23-year-old man in Gayle, St. Mary, detailing an encounter at Mr. Bascoe’s residence where the high school principal reportedly engaged in inappropriate behavior. The man subsequently sought medical treatment for lower abdominal pain.

In his resignation letter, Mr. Bascoe expressed his intention to focus on clearing his name while acknowledging the potential impact of the allegations on the PNP’s reputation. Despite maintaining his innocence, he opted to step aside as caretaker for West St. Mary to prioritize the party’s interests.

Mr. Bascoe extended gratitude to the PNP and the constituents of West St. Mary for their support, expressing confidence in the eventual vindication of his name.

The G2K group has called on Bascoe to step down from his position as school principal while under investigation.

Generation 2000 (G2K), the young professional affiliate of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), has made a public demand for Errol Bascoe, a People’s National Party (PNP) politician and Principal of Tacky High School in St Mary, to step down from his role. The demand follows what G2K calls “serious allegations” reported in the media against the politician.

The St Mary police have confirmed the initiation of an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct against Bascoe, who recently resigned as the PNP’s provisional candidate for St Mary Western.

In response to these allegations, Bascoe refuted them in a letter to PNP President Mark Golding, denouncing them as “scurrilous” and “malicious.” However, he did not provide specific details at the time, although it has since been revealed that the allegations are of a sexual nature and were raised by a young man.

G2K, in a statement dated Saturday, March 9, 2024, expressed concern that Bascoe’s resignation as the PNP’s provisional candidate for St Mary Western due to “scurrilous and malicious allegations” has raised doubts about his capacity to lead an educational institution effectively.

The organization emphasized the importance of maintaining the highest standards of integrity and accountability in education, particularly for school administrators who act as custodians of the students and the community’s interests. G2K strongly criticized Bascoe for allegedly prioritizing the reputation of the PNP over the well-being and standing of Tacky High School, where he serves as principal.

Shayne Kerr, President of G2K, highlighted the principal’s responsibility to safeguard the school and its students, expressing deep concern over Bascoe’s purported failure to do so. G2K urged Bascoe to consider the potential risks posed by his continued tenure and emphasized the necessity for him to act in the best interests of Tacky High School and its community by promptly submitting his resignation.
