Ten individuals have been taken into custody, with four expecting to face charges for various offenses following a security operation in Gregory Park, St. Catherine, on Thursday morning, March 7, 2024.
Tragically, one individual was fatally shot during an alleged confrontation with the security forces.
A 9mm pistol, an AK-47 rifle, a shotgun, assorted rounds of ammunition, and a bulletproof vest were confiscated during the operation.

Senior Superintendent Christopher Phillips, Commanding Officer for the St. Catherine South Police, highlighted a recent surge in murders and shootings within the area.
He disclosed that his team had been subjected to shootings and threats in recent weeks, prompting the security forces to act based on gathered intelligence in the Caymanas Gardens area after midnight.
SSP Phillips reported several individuals scattered in different directions while cordoning the area. The pursuing team was fired upon by individuals within a specific house, leading to a firefight. Subsequently, a man was discovered with gunshot wounds and later pronounced dead at the Spanish Town Hospital. A 9mm pistol was retrieved from him.
Six weapons were seized in the St. Catherine South Division in less than 24 hours, three of which were confiscated in Central Village.
SSP Phillips emphasized the need for communities to closely monitor unattached young people to prevent their involvement in criminal activities.
Additionally, a resident of Gregory Park, speaking anonymously, expressed concern that individuals apprehended in the operation were serving as protectors of the community. The resident feared potential threats from others aiming to seize control and emphasized the role of the police in such instances.
Tragic Loss: Police Constable Fatally Injured in Car Accident.
Police Constable Andre Douglas, stationed at the Cedar Valley Police Station in St Thomas, tragically lost his life in a vehicular accident on Wednesday, March 8, 2024.
Reports indicate that at approximately 3:00 p.m., Douglas was riding a motorcycle along Weymouth Drive towards Washington Boulevard in St Andrew.
Upon approaching the stoplight, he was struck by a Toyota Hiace van that had disregarded the red light.
Following the incident, he was promptly taken to the Kingston Public Hospital, where he later passed away due to the severity of his injuries.
The investigation into this tragic event is being conducted by the Duhaney Park police.
Tragic: Clarendon Farmer Fatally Stabbed to Death.
Tragic Death in Clarendon: Oraine Cole, a 37-year-old farmer from Mitchell Town, was fatally stabbed during a dispute with a woman on Monday, 4th, 2024.
Reports indicate that the altercation took place at his residence around 4:44 p.m. Allegedly referred to as ‘Butcher’, Cole and the woman engaged in a heated argument, escalating to physical violence.
During the altercation, Cole reportedly used a piece of wood to assault the woman. In retaliation, the woman, armed with a knife, allegedly stabbed Cole in his upper body.
Local residents alerted the police, leading to their prompt arrival at the scene. Tragically, Cole was found lifeless in his home. The authorities provided medical assistance to both Cole and the woman, but Cole was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. The woman was admitted under police supervision.
The investigation into this unfortunate event is currently underway.
60-y-o farmer found dead in St Ann, son held as suspect.
A tragic incident unfolded in Nine Miles, St. Ann, as a woman lost her life and her son was hospitalized following a domestic dispute on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Jennifer Tucker, aged 60, of Simmsrun in St Ann.
Her 24-year-old son, who had been displaying unusual behavior before the incident, is the prime suspect in her death.
Reports indicate that Ms. Tucker left her farm for her house after receiving a phone call from her son sometime before 6 p.m. Concern arose when she did not return promptly, prompting her common-law husband and other residents to search for her.
The deceased woman’s son was reportedly seen fleeing the family home as the search party approached. She was later found motionless inside the house, with a red substance oozing from her nose.
Local residents reacted to the situation by attacking the young man, causing him injuries before the police intervened and took him to the hospital for treatment.
The authorities are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination to learn more about Ms. Tucker’s cause of death, as there were no visible wounds on her body. The investigation into this tragic event continues.
